According to Svayambhū and Hemacandra Madanāvatāra has four groups of five moras. The form of the five-moraic Gana is not specified in the definitions. But in the llustration they give, the five-moraic Gana has different structures. The basic unit of Svayambhū's Madanăvatāra illustration is uu u uu , while that of Hemacandra's is uu ut u. Consequently, to underline this distinction, the forms have been labelled with numbers. Similarly Madhukari is given by Hemacandra as a cover term for all the metre having five five-moraic ganas of any form. Meters of this type with basic units of differens forms have been distinguished here as Madhukari--I and Madhukari—II. 2. The term 'sarvalaghu' is found employed for the metre containing 16 shorts as welt as for one with 20 shorts. So it is a description rather than a designation. The former type is known as Acaladhỉti after Jayadeva. The latter I have been unable to find ilo Prakrit metrical works. Hence the general term sarvalaghu is adopted as a makeshift.
