[ PARÍ XLVII. Sandhi. Episode of the daughters of king
Dadhimukha. The princesses of king Dadhimukha, who were destined to marry the person that would kill Sähasagati, repaired to a forest to practise Yoga and acquire magic powers. Angāraka, their unsuccessful suitor, set fire to that forest, which also harboured two Cārana sages practising austerities. Hanumat passing through air, saw the calamity to the sages and extinguished the fire by means of magic waters. He saluted the sages and was blessed. The princesses too arrived there and praised Hanumat's action. They also narrated their account. Hanumat informed them of Sāhasagati's death at the hands of Rāma. On his advice Dadhimukha went to Kiskindha and married his three daughters to Rāma.
XLVIII. Sandhi. Han umat destroys A śāli and Vajra -
yudha and marries Lankā sundari. Hanumat reached Lankā. Asāli was guarding the entrance to it. Club in hand he faced her unaided. Aśāli swallowed him. He battered open her inside and came out triumphant.
As Aśāli was destroyed Vajrayudha, the keeper of the fortress, fell upon Hanumat. He too was killed. Vajrayudha's daughter Lankāsundari came to avenge his father's death. It was a close fight. But after a while, fascinated by Hanumat's strength and valour, she expressed her love for him. Hanumat responded. They married. The hostile army unit was held spell-bound, to prevent leaking of news to Rāvaņa. He spent that night with Lankāsundari and next day took her leave.
XLIX. Sandhi. Hanumat sees Vibhiş a na, meets Sità:
He entered Lankā, went directly to Vibhīşana and delivered the messages of Jāmbūvat, Nala and Nila, who denounced Rāvana's immoral act and emphasized the great strength, valour and achievements of Rāma, who would attack Lankā any day. Vibhişana told him that Rāvana was
by Sītā and hence did not listen to reason. He himself might have to leave him some day.
Leaving Vibhișana, Hanumat searched through the city and eventually came to the park where Sītā was kept. He saw her sorrowful and emaciated. Remaining concealed in a tree he dropped Rāma's ring in her lap. She recognized it and a smile brightened her face. Her sudden smile was reported to Rāvana. Urged by him, Mandodari, along with the rest of the harem came to Sitā and once more tried to persuade her. But Sitā sang praises of Rāma and Laksmana. Enraged at this, Mandodari and others threatened to kill her. Sītā remained composed. Hanumat now intervened and introduced himself as Rāma's messenger. Mandodari taunted him for changing masters for worse. Hanumat gave a befitting retort. Threatening to get him captured next day, Mandodari left. Hanymat now greeted Sītă with a bow.
