O sage! What do you consider to be the shelter, refuge, firm ground and island for creatures being swept and drowned by adevastating deluge of water? (65)
अत्थि एगो महादीवो, वारिमज्झे महालओ।
महाउदगवेगस्स, गई तत्थ न विज्जई॥६६॥ (गौतम-) जल के मध्य में एक विशाल महाद्वीप है। वहाँ महान् जल-प्रवाह के वेग की गति नहीं होती है-वहाँ जल नहीं पहुँचता॥६६॥
(Gautam-) There is a vast continent in the middle of the expanse of water where the devastating deluge of water has no movement. (66)
दीवे य इइ के वुत्ते ?, केसी गोयममब्बवी।
केसिमेवं बुवंतं तु, गोयमो इणमब्बवी॥६७॥ (केशी) केशी ने गौतम से कहा-वह महाद्वीप कौन-सा कहा जाता है? केशी के पूछने पर गौतम ने इस प्रकार कहा-॥६७॥
Keshi said to Gautam-What is said to be this continent ? Hearing these words of Keshi, Gautam replied-(67)
जरा-मरणवेगेणं, बुज्झमाणाण पाणिणं।
धम्मो दीवो पइट्ठा य, गई सरणमुत्तमं॥ ६८॥ (गौतम-) जरा (वृद्धावस्था) और मरण (मृत्यु) के महावेग से बहते-डूबते प्राणियों के लिए धर्म ही द्वीप, प्रतिष्ठा, गति और उत्तम शरण है॥ ६८॥
Religion (dharma) is the lone shelter, refuge, firm ground and island for
atures being swept and drowned by a devastating deluge of water that is dotage and death. (68)
साहु गोयम ! पन्ना ते, छिन्नो मे संसओ इमो।
अन्नो वि संसओ मझं, तं मे कहसु गोयमा !॥६९॥ (केशी-) गौतम ! तुम्हारी प्रज्ञा श्रेष्ठ है। तुमने मेरा यह संशय भी छिन कर दिया। मेरा एक संशय और है, उसके बारे में भी मुझे कहो-बताओ॥ ६९॥
(Kumar-shraman Keshi-) Gautam! You are endowed with excellent wisdom. You have removed my doubt. I have another doubt. Gautam! Please tell me about that also. (69)
अण्णवंसि महोहंसि, नावा विपरिधावई।
जंसि गोयममारूढो, कहं पारं गमिस्ससि ?॥७०॥ महाप्रवाह वाले सागर में नौका (नाव) विपरीत रूप से इधर-उधर भाग रही है (विपरिधावई) हे गौतम ! तुम उसमें बैठे हो। किस प्रकार पार (सागर के तट तक) जा सकोगे? ॥ ७० ॥
On the ocean with many huge currents there is a boat adrift directionless and you are on board, how would you go across? (70)
