Thus driven by craving for spiritual uplift (samvigna) that noble soul (Samudrapaal) became enlightened. After getting permission from his parents he became a homeless ascetic. (10)
जहित्तु संगं च महाकिलेसं, महन्तमोहं कसिणं भयावहं।
परियायधम्मं चऽभिरोयएज्जा, वयाणि सीलाणि परीसहे य॥११॥ श्रमणत्व धारण करने के उपरान्त साधु महाक्लेशकारी, महामोह और भयकारी आसक्ति (संग) को त्यागकर साधुता (परियायधर्म) में, व्रत में, शील में और परीषहों को समभावपूर्वक सहन करने में अभिरुचि रखने वाला बने॥११॥
Once getting initiated the ascetic should abandon the intense fondness and distress causing obsession with the mundane, and get inclined towards asceticism (paryaya dharma), vows, righteousness and endurance for afflictions with equanimity. (11)
अहिंस सच्चं च अतेणगं च, तत्तो य बम्भं अपरिग्गहं च।
पडिवज्जिया पंच महव्वयाणि, चरिज्ज धम्मं जिणदेसियं विऊ॥१२॥ विद्वान् साधु अहिंसा, सत्य, अचौर्य, ब्रह्मचर्य और अपरिग्रह-इन पाँच महाव्रतों को स्वीकार करके जिनेन्द्र भगवान द्वारा उपदिष्ट धर्म का आचरण करे ।। १२ ।।
A learned ascetic should accept the five great vows, namely ahimsa (non-violence), truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy and non-possession, and follow the religious order propagated by the Jina. (12)
सव्वेहिं भूएहिं दयाणुकम्पी, खन्तिक्खमे संजय बम्भयारी।
सावज्जजोगं परिवज्जयन्तो, चरिज्ज भिक्खू सुसमाहिइन्दिए॥१३॥ भिक्षु सभी जीवों के प्रति दया-करुणा रखे, क्षमा से दुर्वचनों को सहन करे, संयत हो, ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करने वाला हो, पापाचार (सावद्ययोग) का परित्याग करे और इन्द्रियों को भली-भाँति संवरण करके विचरण करे॥१३॥
An ascetic should have compassion for all living beings, be forbearing (towards harsh words), be restrained, observe celibacy, renounce all sinful activities and move about immaculately subduing senses. (13)
कालेण कालं विहरेज्ज रढे, बलाबलं जाणिय अप्पणो य।
सीहो व सद्देण न संतसेज्जा, वयजोग सुच्चा न असब्भमाहु॥१४॥ अपने बलाबल-शक्ति को जानकर साधु समय के अनुसार राष्ट्रों में विहार करे। सिंह के समान भयभीत करने वाले शब्दों को सुनकर भी संत्रस्त न हो और दुर्वचन सुनकर भी असभ्य वचन न बोले॥१४॥
