पढमं अज्झयणं : विणय-सुयं
प्रथम अध्ययन :विनय श्रुत Chapter-1 : MAXIMS OF MODESTY
संजोगा विप्पमुक्कस्स, अणगारस्स भिक्खुणो।
विणयं पाउकरिस्सामि, आणुपुव्विं सुणेह मे॥१॥ जो सभी संयोगों (सांसारिक आसक्तियुक्त सम्बन्धों) से विप्रमुक्त-सर्वथा पृथक् है, गृहत्यागी अनगार है, (निर्दोष भिक्षा से जीवन यापन करने वाला) भिक्षु है; उसके विनय (अनुशासन एवं आचार) का मैं क्रमशः वर्णन करता हूँ, उसे ध्यानपूर्वक सुनो॥ १॥
I will describe the humble behaviour (discipline and conduct) of an ascetic (bhikkhu), who is free from all worldly ties, and a homeless renouncer. Listen to me with all attention. (1)
आणाऽनिद्देसकरे, गुरूणमुववायकारए।
इंगियागारसंपन्ने, से 'विणीए' त्ति वुच्चई॥२॥ गुरु की आज्ञा (आदेश) एवं निर्देश (संकेत) का पालन करने वाला, उनकी सेवा करने वाला, उनके समीप रहने वाला और उनके मनोभावों के अनुसार आचरण करने वाला विनीत कहलाता है॥२॥ .
One, who responds to instructions and directions of the guru, serves him and remains 'near him, is called a modest disciple. (2)
आणाऽनिद्देसकरे, गुरूणमणुववायकारए।
पडिणीए असंबुद्धे, 'अविणीए'त्ति वुच्चई॥३॥ जो गुरु की आज्ञा का पालन नहीं करता है, उनसे दूर-दूर रहता है, उनके मनोभावों और संकेतों के प्रतिकूल कार्य करता है तथा जो असंबुद्ध-तत्त्व को नहीं जानता है, उसे अविनीत कहा जाता है॥३॥
One, who does not respond to instructions and directions of the guru, keeps away from him, acts contrary to his feelings and indications, and is ignorant of the fundamentals, is called an immodest disciple. (3)
जहा सुणी पूई-कण्णी, निक्कसिज्जई सव्वसो।
एवं दुस्सील-पडिणीए, मुहरी निक्कसिज्जई॥४॥ जिस प्रकार सड़े कानों वाली कुतिया (घृणापूर्वक) सभी स्थानों से निकाल दी जाती है, उसी प्रकार गुरु के प्रतिकूल आचरण करने वाला, दुःशील और वाचाल शिष्य भी सभी स्थानों से (तिरस्कृत करके) निकाल दिया जाता है॥ ४॥ __As a bitch with ulcerous ear lobes is driven away (with disdain) from every place; in the same way a disciple, who goes against the guru, is misbehaved and talkative, is also driven out (disgracefully) from everywhere.
