3. [Q.] Bhante ! How many Narak Prithvis (hells) are said to be 卐 there?
___[Ans.] Gautam ! There are said to be seven Narak Prithvis (hells)Ratnaprabha (first hell)... and so on up to... Adhah-saptam Prithvi (seventh hell).
४. [प्र.] इमीसे णं भंते! रयणप्पभाए पुढवीए केवइया निरयावाससयसहस्सा पन्नत्ता? [उ.] गोयमा ! तीसं निरयावाससयसहस्सा पन्नत्ता। ४. [प्र.] भगवन् ! इस रत्नप्रभा पृथ्वी में कितने लाख नरकावास कहे गए हैं? [उ.] गौतम! तीस लाख नारकावास कहे हैं।
4. (Q.] Bhante ! How many infernal abodes are said to be there in this Ratnaprabha Prithvi (first hell)?
[Ans.] Gautam ! There are said to be three million infernal abodes. ५. [प्र.] ते णं भंते ! किं संखेज्जवित्थडा, असंखेज्जवित्थडा? . [उ.] गोयमा! संखेज्जवित्थडा वि, असंखेज्जवित्थडा वि।
५. [प्र.] भगवन् ! क्या वे नरकावास संख्येय (संख्यात योजन) विस्तृत हैं अथवा असंख्येय (असंख्यात योजन) विस्तृत हैं?
[उ.] गौतम! वे संख्येय (संख्यात योजन) विस्तृत भी हैं और असंख्येय (असंख्यात योजन) विस्तृत भी हैं।
5. [Q.] Bhante !Is the expanse of these infernal abodes countable Yojans or innumerable Yojans ? __ [Ans.] Gautam ! They have countable Yojans area as well as innumerable Yojans area.
विवेचन-नरक-पृथ्वियों की संख्या सात कही गई हैं-1. रत्नप्रभा, 2. शर्कराप्रभा, 3. बालुकाप्रभा, 14. पंकप्रभा, 5. धूमप्रभा, 6. तमस्प्रभा, 7. तमःतमस्प्रभा। इनमें से यहाँ प्रथम रत्नप्रभा नरक-पृथ्वी के 5 नरकावासों की संख्या और उनके विस्तार को बताया गया है।
