३. [प्र. ] से केणतुणं भंते ! एवं वुच्चइ-'नरदेवा, नरदेवा'? ।
[उ.] गोयमा! जे इमे रायाणो चउरंतचक्कवट्टी उप्पन्नसमत्तचक्करयणप्पहाणा ॐ नवनिहिपइणो समिद्धकोसा बत्तीसं रायवरसहस्साणुयायमग्गा सागरवरमेहलाहिवइणो ॐ मणुस्सिंदा, से तेणटेणं जाव 'नरदेवा, नरदेवा'।
३. [प्र.] भगवन्! नरदेव 'नरदेव' किस कारण से कहे गए हैं?
[उ.] गौतम! जो राजा चार दिशाओं अर्थात् (पूर्व, पश्चिम और दक्षिण में समुद्र तथा उत्तर म में हिम पर्वत तक षटखण्ड पृथ्वी के स्वामी) चक्रवर्ती हैं, जिनके यहाँ समस्त रत्नों में प्रधान
चक्र-रत्न उत्पन्न हुआ है, जो नव निधियों के अधिपति (स्वामी) हैं, जिनके कोष समृद्ध हैं,
बत्तीस हजार राजा जिनके मार्गानुसारी हैं और जो महासागर रूप श्रेष्ठ मेखला पर्यन्त-पृथ्वी के के अधिपति और मनुष्यों में इन्द्र समान हैं ऐसे नरदेव को इसी कारण यावत् 'नरदेव' कहा गया है।
3. [Q.] Bhante ! Why Naraders are said to be Naradevs ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! The rulers who are Chakravartis whose sovereignty extends till end of land in all four directions (up to the Himalaya in the north and the seas in other three directions); in whose treasury Chakra (the disc weapon), the best of gems, has appeared; who are owners of nine kinds 45 of wealth; who have plentiful treasuries; who have thirty-two thousand kings at their command; who are lords of the whole earth (land) bounded by oceans and who are like Indra (king of gods) among men; such human-gods, for this reason... and so on up to... are said to be Naradevs.
४. [प्र.] से केणतुणं भंते ! एवं वुच्चइ-'धम्मदेवा, धम्मदेवा'? म [उ.] गोयमा ! जे इमे अणगारा भगवंतो ईरियासमिया जाव गुत्तबंभचारी, से तेणद्वेणं है 卐 जाव 'धम्मदेवा, धम्मदेवा'।
४. [प्र.] भगवन्! धर्मदेव 'धर्मदेव' किस कारण से कहे जाते हैं?
[उ.] गौतम! जो ये अनगार भगवान ईर्यासमिति (आदि पंच समितियों से युक्त) यावत् गुप्त-ब्रह्मचारी होते हैं; वे इस कारण से धर्म के देव यावत् 'धर्मदेव' कहे जाते हैं।
4. [Q.] Bhante ! Why Dharmadevs are said to be Dharmadevs ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! These Anagaar (abode-less ascetics) Bhagavans who are endowed with (five samitis or self regulations, including) Iryasamiti(care in movement)... and so on up to... are gupta-brahmachaaris or perfect
