practitioner after the conclusion of his austerity or even without any austerity such as fast, makes a resolve in his mind that he shall take food and water only when all the conditions and situations as mentally contemplated are fully fulfilled. Otherwise he shall remain without food till a particular period enunciated in the resolve.
In this sutra the words knot, as mentioned are just an indication. The word ganthi-sahiyum means with a knot. The practitioner tying a knot in a piece of cloth or in a thread (or string) makes a resolve that he shall not consume any foodstuff or liquid till he does not untie that know.
Muthi-sahiyam is with fist. The practitioner closing the fist makes a resolve not to consume anything till the fist is not opened.
There is no definite number of abhigrehs. The nature of abhigreh depends on the mental set up of the practitioner. There is no doubt that abhigreh is a hard ascetic practice. Only forbearant practitioner accepts it but it is also essential that the practitioner should contemplate the abhigreh according to his patience and courage.
देशावकाशिक अभिग्रह सूत्र
देसावगासियं उवभोगं परिभोगं पच्चक्खामि, अन्नत्थऽणाभोगेणं, सहसागारेणं, महत्तरागारेणं वोसिरामि ।
भावार्थ : देशावकाशिक व्रत की आराधना के लिए उपभोग - परिभोग के पदार्थों का प्रत्याख्यान करता हूं। अनाभोग, सहसाकार एवं महत्तराकार - उक्त आगारों के साथ परिमाण की हुई वस्तुओं का परित्याग करता हूं।
Explanation: I undertake vow of discarding articles of consumption and of frequent use in order to practice deshavakashik resolve. The exceptions shell be Anabhog, Sahasakar and Mahattarakar.
विवेचन : ‘देशावकाशिक' श्रावक का दसवां व्रत है। इस व्रत का अभिधेय है - जीवन भर के लिए भोगोपभोग की जिन वस्तुओं का परिमाण किया है, पुनः विशिष्ट त्याग भावना तु उन वस्तुओं का प्रतिदिन परिमाण करना । उदाहरण के लिए - जैसे श्रावक जी ने जीवन-भर के लिए प्रतिज्ञा की है कि मैं प्रतिदिन दस लीटर जल से स्नान करूंगा, उससे अधिक जल का उपयोग नहीं करूंगा। यह जीवन-भर के लिए त्याग है । पुनः श्रावक विशेष त्यागभाव हेतु प्रातः उठकर निश्चय करता है कि आज मैं पांच लीटर जल से ही स्नान करूंगा, उससे अधिक नहीं।
