चौदह गुणस्थान सूत्र संख्या 95 में कर्मों की विशुद्धि की गवेषणा करने वाले उपायों की अपेक्षा से चौदह जीवस्थान कहे गए हैं। कर्मग्रन्थ में इन्हें ही गुणस्थान कहा गया है। गुणस्थान शब्द ही अधिक प्रचलित भी है।
चौदह गुणस्थान एक आरोहण क्रम है। जीव जैसे-जैसे अपना शुद्धिकरण करता जाता है वैसे-वैसे उसका ऊर्ध्वारोहण होता जाता है। चौथे गुणस्थान में जीव सम्यक्त्व धारण करता है। यहां से उसकी यात्रा सम्यक् स्वरूप धारण करती है। पांचवें गुणस्थान में व्यक्ति श्रावकधर्म अंगीकार करता है
और छठे में श्रमण-धर्म की आराधना करता है। आगे-आगे के गुणस्थानों में प्रमाद और कषायों को पतला करता है। बारहवें गुणस्थान में मोह को क्षीण करता है। मोह का सर्वथा क्षय होते ही वह तेरहवें गुणस्थान में प्रविष्ट होता है। यही कैवल्य अवस्था है। चौदहवां गुणस्थान अयोगी केवली है। यहां केवली शरीर का विसर्जन कर मोक्ष को प्राप्त हो जाता है।

Fourteen "Gunsthan" In aphorism no. 95 with regards the search of the purification of Karmas fourteen “Jeeva Sthan" has been stated. In Holy Scriptures these just have been said "Gunsthan". The term "Gunsthan" is more in use just today also.
Fourteen Gunsthan are actually an ascending order. Such as the being goes purifying himself so as his escalation starts. In fourth Gunsthan, the being holds the righteousness here forth his journey holds the mode of equanimity.
In the fifth Gunsthan the person adopts the householder vows and in the sixth Gunsthan propiates the monks vows and in the proceeding Gunsthans the person thins his pramad and passions. In the twelveth Gunsthan destroys all the delusions.
As soon as the delusions are destroyed he enters in the thirteenth Gunsthan. This one is the state of omniscient. The fourteenth Gunsthan is the state of 'Ayog Kewali'. Here, in this Gunsthan the being abandoning physical body attains liberation.
