स्नेह रहित शब्द युक्त उपालम्भ, आदेश, शिक्षा तथा प्रेरणा देने के वचन 'अल्प परुष वचन' हैं। परुष भाषा एक प्रकार से सूक्ष्म हिंसा है क्योंकि इस भाषा के प्रयोग से दूसरों को दुःख होता है, जिससे प्रथम महाव्रत में - अतिचार लगता है। यहाँ यह प्रायश्चित्त विधान ऐसे ही परुष वचनों का है। परुष होते हुए भी परुष नहीं
केशीकुमार श्रमण ने राजा प्रदेशी को तथा राजीमति ने रहनेमि को जो कुछ परुष वाक्य कहे थे वे परुष (कठोर) होते हुए भी परुष नहीं थे क्योंकि उन्होंने जो परुष भाषा कही थी वह उन आत्माओं के हित के लिए कही तर थी, अतः उस परिस्थिति में कहे गए कषायभाव-रहित परुष वचन प्रायश्चित्त योग्य नहीं होते हैं। इसी प्रकार शिष्य को हितशिक्षा हेत कहे गए गरु के कठोर वचन भी प्रायश्चित्त योग्य नहीं होते हैं। क्रोध,मान. ईष्या या द्वेषवश कहे तर गए परुष वचनों का प्रायश्चित्त सूत्र में कहा है। आत्मीयता एवं पवित्र हृदय से कहे गए परुष वचनों का प्रायश्चित्त नहीं है।
Comments—Harsh words are used in rough language. The ascetic should not use such a rough language. This has been said violent. If Circumstanciously the ascetic gets exasperated then he must try to practice silence observing the vow of Vochan Gupti.
According to the commentator the reproach, order, advice and inspiring preachings are "A little rough speech". This kind of law of expiation is with regard to rough speeches. because by speaking such a rough language others are hurt, Therefore rough speech are subtle violence. Transgression is applied in the first full vow through using the rough language. Even harsh but not harsh
Why Keshikumar Shraman and Rajmati have uttered harsh words against King Predeshi and Rathnemi respectively. Though those words were harsh but is reality they were not harsh because whatever they stated in harsh words that was uttered merely for the benefit of their souls. Hence the harsh word devoid of passion uttered in unavoidable circumstances are not worthy of expiation. In the same way the harsh language that has been spoken against disciple for the advice has not been worthy of atonement. The atonement of the harsh words uttered in the fit of anger, conceit, aversion and jealousy is narrated in sutras.
