ence deserve to be seriously examined. At one place the view has been quoted with regard to the rūpa and varņa-saṁsthānal. This view might have been quoted from the commentary of the Sataśāstra by Vasu or Vasu Bodhisattva?. Vasu may be regarded as an abbreviated form of Vasubandhu's name. The appellation Bodhi. sattva is quite indicative of the fact that this author flourished much earlier and was held in high esteem by posterity. The other citation refers to Manoratha, the teacher of Vasubandhu and not to Vasubandhu. There are two variant readings of this expression which runs : 373 sfat i Fafazt a garanterart hatcentere474 gang? The other reading is वसुबन्धुराचार्यो in place of वसुबन्धोः . Fraiwallner accepts the second reading4. But it is noteworthy in this connection that if the reading agaryzrerut is accepted, the conjunction 'ca' must invariably follow the expression 39tefta:, but this 'ca' does not occur in any MS. Hence, the other reading, i.e. ayarat: should be adopted.
This VỊddha Vasubandhu may be another author of the same name who commented upon the Sataśāstra of Āryadeva and was the author of the Bodhicittotpādanaśāstra. These works were translated into Chinese by
