Chapter 65
THE GRAND HARMONY
The ancients who knew how to follow the Tao Aimed not to enlighten the people,
But to keep them ignorant.
The reason it is difficult for the people to live in peace Is because of too much knowledge.
Those who seek to rule a country by knowledge
Are the nation's curse.
Those who seek not to rule a country by knowledge
Are the nation's blessing.
Those who know these two (principles)
Also know the ancient standard,
And to know always the ancient standard
Is called the Mystic Virtue.
When the Mystic Virtue becomes clear, far-reaching,
And things revert back (to their source),
Then and then only emerges the Grand Harmony.
अध्याय 65
भव्य लयबद्धता
जोताओ का अनुगमन करना जानते थे,
उन पूर्व-पुरुषों ने लोगों को ज्ञानी बनाने का इरादा नहीं किया,
बल्कि वे उन्हें अज्ञानी ही रखना चाहते थे।
कारण है कि लोगों के लिए शांति में रहना कठिन हैं, अतिशय ज्ञान के चलते। जो ज्ञान से किसी देश पर शासन करना चाहते हैं, वे राष्ट्र के अभिशाप हैं। जो ज्ञान से देश पर शासन करना नहीं चाहते, वे राष्ट्र के वरदान हैं। जो इन दोनों सिद्धांतों को जानते है वे प्राचीन मानदंड को भी जानते हैं. और प्राचीन मानदंड को सदा जानना ही रहस्यमय सदगुण कठाता है। जब रहस्यमय सदगुण स्पष्ट, दूरगामी बनता है, और चीजें अपने उदगम को लाँट जाती हैं,
तब, और तभी, उदय होता है भव्य लयबद्धता का।
