BRIGANIDAGE
If I were possessed of Austere Knowledge, Walking on the Main Path (Tao) I would avoid the by-paths. The Main Path is easy to walk on, Yet people love the small by-paths. The official) courts are spick and span, (While) the fields go untilled, And the (people's) granaries are very low. (Pet) clad in embroidered gowns, And carrying fine swords, Surfeited with good food and drinks, (They are) splitting with wealth and possessions.
- This is to lead the world towards brigandage. Is it not the corruption of Tao?

लूटपाट
मुख्य पथ (ताओ) पर चल कर, मैं यदि तपःपूत ज्ञान को प्राप्त होता, तो मैं पगडंडियों से नहीं चलता। मुख्य पथ पर चलना आसान है। तो भी लोग छोटी पगडंडियां पसंद करते हैं। दरबार चाकचिक्य से भरे है, जब कि खेत जुताई के बिना पड़े हैं और बनवारियां वाली है। तथापि जड़ीदार चोगे पठने, चमचमाती तलवारें हाथों में लिए, श्रेष्ठ भोजन और पेय से अघाए, वे धन-संपत्ति में सराबोर है। -इससे ही संसार लूटपाट पर उतारू होता है। क्या यह ताओ का भ्रष्टाचरण नहीं है?
