THE WORLD AND I
Banish learning, and vexations end. Between 'Ah!' and 'Ough!' How much difference is there? Between 'good' and 'evil How much difference is there? That which men fear Is indeed to be feared; But, alas, distant yet is the dawn (of awakening)! The people of the world are merry-making As if partaking of the sacrificial feasts, As if mounting the terrace in spring; I alone am mild, like one unemployed, Like a new-born babe that cannot yet smile, Unattached, like one without a home.

संसार और म
पांडित्य को छोड़ो तो मुसीबतें समाप्त हो जाती है। हां और न के बीच अंतर क्या है? शुभ और अशुभ के बीच भी फासला क्या है? लोग जिससे डरते हैं, उससे डरना ही चाहिए, लेकिन अफसोस कि जागरण की सुबह अभी भी कितनी दूर है। दुनिया के लोग मजे कर रहे हैं, मानो वे यज्ञ के भोज में शरीक हों, मानो वे वसंत ऋतु में खुली छत पर खड़े ठों, मैं अकेला ही शांत और साम्य हूं, जैसे कि मुझे कोई काम ही न हो, मैं उस नवजात शिशु जैसा हूं, जो अभी मुस्कुरा भी नहीं सकता, या वह बनजारा हूं, जिसका कोई घर न हो।
