ग्रन्थस्य वैशिष्टयम्
ग्रन्थस्यास्य स्वकीयं वैशिष्टयमिदमेव यदत्र ग्रन्थकारोऽन्येषां दार्शनिकानां मतान्यपि निर्दिशति । कमलशीलश्च नामग्राहं तद्वचनान्युदाहरति । ग्रन्थकारोऽयं तदानीन्तनशतकत्रये जातां धर्मकीर्तित उद्योतकरपर्यन्तां दर्शनपरिचर्चामुल्लिखति। अस्मिन् काले (ग्रन्थकर्तुः समये) दार्शनिकाः प्रश्नाः सूक्ष्मेक्षिकया विवेच्यमाना आसन् । आचार्यदिङ्नाम-धर्मकीर्तिप्रबन्धैरास्तिकदर्शनानां सर्वमान्या: सिद्धान्ता न केवलं भृशं कम्पिता:, अपितु तेषामस्तित्वमपि सौगतप्रबन्धानां पुरतः सन्दिग्धमिव जातम् । 'अहमेव तत्त्वदर्शी' इति दार्शनिकानामात्मतोषस्तदात्वेऽसम्भव एवाभूत्।

The most remarkable feature of this work is its reproduction of the views of scholars who otherwise would have remained in perfect oblivion. Kamalshil gives the names of the authors and quotes from them. It ows the philosophical activities and speculations of nearly three centuries from time of Dharmakīrtti down to Uddyotakar. It was a period of brisk speculation and hard thinking. Dingnāga and Dharmakīrtti works gave a good jolt and shock to orthodox schools of philisophy. They were faced with the risk of loss of prestige and even existence. The philosophical complacency was made impossible.
