swarms of bees, look beautiful as if children of darkness, "having gathered together, are playing." 383. (1) चातक, "पिउ पिर" [पिबामि पिबामि and प्रियः प्रियः
इति] भणित्वा कियद्रोदिषि हताश । तव जले मम पुनर्वलभे द्वयोरपि न पूरिता आशा॥ "0 चातक, with your desire unfulfilled, how long will you cry: 'I shall drink ( water ), I shall drink ?' longings of us both, yours for water and mine for my lover, are never fulfilled." बप्पीह means चातक. पिउ पिउ has a double meaning as given in the Sanskrit rendering. (2) चातक किं कथनेन निघृण वारंवारम् ।
सागरे भृते विमलजलेन लभसे न एकामपि धाराम ॥ "0 ruthless चातक, what is the use of repeatedly telling you that you will not get a single drop (lit. Etiti = shower) even though the ocean is full of clear water". . (8) अस्मिन् जन्मनि अन्यस्मिन्नपि गौरि तं दद्याः कान्तमू ।
गजानां मत्तानां त्यक्तांकुशानां यः संगच्छते हसन् ॥ "OGauri; may you give me in this life and also in another such husband, 'who smilingly meets maddened elephants unmanageable (even) by means of goads."
. 384. (1) बलेः अभ्यर्थने मधुमथनो लघुकीभूतः सोऽपि । :
यदि इच्छथ महत्त्वं ( वडुत्तणउं ) दत्त, मा मार्गयत कमपि ॥ ... " Even that Madhumathana (God Visnu,) became a dwarf while begging (alms) of Bali ; if therefore you
desire greatness, give (to others), but do not beg of any 'One." - 385. (1) विधिर्विनाटयतु ग्रहाः पीडयन्तु मा धन्ये कुरु विषादम् ।
संपदं कर्षामि वेषमिव यदि अर्घति (=स्यात् ) व्यवसायः ॥ " Let my luck be unfavourable ; let the stars trouble me; O fair one, do not be depressed. I shall drag money like my dress if only I value work." Note that yg means यदि, if ; see IV. 422.
