There was adequate space in it, duly maintained for the parking of chariots, vehicles and palanquins, big as well as small. In this manner, the forest strip gave joy to all; it was delightful to the eyes, pleasant to the mind, immensely attracting. 3

उस वन खण्ड के ठीक बीच के भाग में एक विशाल एवं सुन्दर अशोक वृक्ष था । उसकी जड़ें दर्भ ( डाभ ) तथा अन्य प्रकार के तृणों से रहित विशुद्ध थी । वह वृक्ष मूल - जड़ों के ऊपरी भाग, कन्द-भीतरी भाग, तना, छाल, शाखा, अंकुरित होते पत्तों, पत्रों, पुष्पों, फलों और बीजों से सम्पन्न था । वह क्रमशः आनुपातिक रूप में सुन्दर, गोलाकार और विकसित था और सभी गुणों से युक्त था । वह वृक्ष अत्यधिक विशाल होने से उसके नीचे अनेक रथों, डोलियों और पालखियों के ठहराने के लिये पर्याप्त स्थान था । इस प्रकार वह सुन्दर अशोक रमणीय, चित्त को प्रसन्न करने योग्य, देखन योग्य, मन को अपने में रमा लेने वाला और मन में बस जाने वाला था ।
About the centre of the said forest strip, there stood a huge and auspicious aŝoka tree. The ground where stood the tree was free from kusa (darbha) and other grass. All the ten parts of the tree from root, till seed, as aforesaid, were graceful, till delightful to the eyes, pleasant to the mind, immensely attracting.
