The knowing faculty is one aspect of the pure soul. There are other aspects, but knowing is one.
From the low standpoint (see later on under Nigoda) the karma is a higher stage: from the ideal standpoint the karma is an obstruction: the stage of karma is a stage in the line of progess of the soul from the low standpoint.
