परिशिष्ट-६
एकार्थक जिन शब्दों का एक ही अभिधेय हो, वे एकार्थक कहलाते हैं। इनके लिए 'अभिवचन'२ 'निरुक्ति पर्याय और 'निर्वचन" आदि शब्दों का उल्लेख भी मिलता है। किसी भी विषय की व्याख्या में एकार्थक शब्दों के प्रयोग का महत्त्वपूर्ण स्थान रहा है। बृहत्कल्पभाष्य में एकार्थकों का प्रयोजन इस प्रकार बतलाया गया है
बंधाणुलोमया खलु, सुत्तम्मि य लाघवं असम्मोहो।
सत्थगुणदीवणा वि य, एगट्ठगुणा हवंतेए । छंद की व्यवस्थापना, सूत्र का लाघव, असम्मोह तथा शास्त्रीय गुणों का दीपन-ये एकार्थक के गुण हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त एकार्थवाची शब्दों के प्रयोग से विद्यार्थी का भाषा एवं कोशविषयक ज्ञान सुदृढ़ होता है। विभिन्न भाषाभाषी शिष्यों के अनुग्रह के लिए भी ग्रंथकार एकार्थकों का प्रयोग करते हैं, जिससे प्रत्येक देश का विद्यार्थी उस शब्द का अर्थ सुगमता से ग्रहण कर सके। किसी भी बात का प्रकर्ष एवं महत्त्व स्थापित करने के लिए भी एकार्थक शब्दों का प्रयोग होता है। भाव-प्रकर्ष हेतु प्रसंगवश एकार्थकों का प्रयोग पुनरुक्ति दोष नहीं माना जाता । नियुक्तिकार का यह भाषागत वैशिष्ट्य है कि वे सूत्र के मूल शब्द के एकार्थक लिखकर फिर उसकी व्याख्या करते हैं । पिंडनियुक्ति में भी प्रसंगवश ग्रंथकार ने कुछ शब्दों के एकार्थकों का उल्लेख किया है, यहां उनका उल्लेख किया जा रहा है
