पिंडनियुक्ति कथा के माध्यम से सैद्धान्तिक विषयों की भी सुंदर प्रस्तुति हुई है। नूपुरपंडिता कथानक में हाथी के माध्यम से अतिक्रम आदि चारों भेदों को सुंदर ढंग से स्पष्ट किया गया है। पिण्डनियुक्ति का व्याख्या-साहित्य
नियुक्ति-साहित्य अत्यन्त संक्षिप्त एवं सांकेतिक शैली में लिखा गया है अतः बिना व्याख्यासाहित्य के इसको समझना अत्यन्त कठिन है। उदाहरणस्वरूप आधाकर्म के प्रसंग में नियुक्तिकार ने 'दंसणगंधपरिकहा, भाविंति सुलूहवित्तिं पि२ का उल्लेख किया है। सरल होते हुए भी गाथा के इस उत्तरार्द्ध को टीका या व्याख्या-साहित्य के बिना समझना कठिन है। मूलटीका एवं वृद्धव्याख्या
आचार्य मलयगिरि ने अनेक स्थलों पर वृद्ध व्याख्या या वृद्ध सम्प्रदाय का उल्लेख किया है। इस उल्लेख का तात्पर्य यही हो सकता है कि उनके समक्ष पिंडनियुक्ति की व्याख्या प्रस्तुत करने वाला पूर्ववर्ती आचार्य का कोई ग्रंथ था। अत्र वृद्धव्याख्या' का उल्लेख पिण्डविशुद्धिप्रकरण के टीकाकार यशोदेवसूरि ने भी किया है। वर्तमान में यह मूल टीका उपलब्ध नहीं है, फिर भी ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से खोज का विषय है कि मूल टीका के रूप में आचार्य मलयगिरि ने किस आचार्य का संकेत किया है तथा उन्होंने किस समय इस व्याख्या को लिखा।
टीकाकार ने निम्न स्थलों पर वृद्धसम्प्रदाय, वृद्धव्याख्या, पूर्वाचार्य व्याख्या तथा मूलटीका का उल्लेख किया है
