लिए ऊपर की ओर फेंका। मैंने सोचा कि यदि मैं सीधा इसके मुख में गिर जाऊंगा तो मेरे प्राणों की रक्षा संभव नहीं है। इसलिए इसके मुख में तिरछा गिरूंगा। ऐसा सोचकर मैंने फुर्ती से वैसा ही किया। मैं उसके मुख से बाहर निकल गया। पुन: दूसरी बार भी मैं उसके मुख में जाकर बाहर निकल गया। तीसरी बार मैं जल में गिरा अतः दूर चला गया। तीन बार मैं समुद्री तट पर भट्टी के रूप में जलती बालू में गिरा लेकिन शीघ्र ही लहरों के साथ ही वापस समुद्र में चला गया। इसी प्रकार मच्छीमार द्वारा बिछे जाल में इक्कीस बार फंसने पर भी जब तक मात्स्यिक ने जाल का संकोच किया, उससे पहले मैं जाल से निकल गया। एक बार मात्स्यिक ने हृद के जल को बाहर निकालकर उसे खाली करके अनेक मत्स्यों के साथ मुझे पकड़ा। वह सभी मत्स्यों को एकत्र करके तीक्ष्ण लोहे की शलाका में उनको पिरो रहा था। तब मैं दक्षता से मात्स्यिक की दृष्टि बचाकर स्वयं ही उस लोहे के शलाका के मुख पर स्थित हो गया। जब वह मच्छीमार कर्दम लिप्त मत्स्यों को धोने के लिए सरोवर पर गया तब शीघ्र ही मैं जल में निमग्न हो गया। इस प्रकार मुझ शक्ति सम्पन्न को तुम कांटे से पकड़ना चाहते हो , यह तुम्हारी निर्लज्जता है।' इस कथा का निगमन करते हुए कथाकार कहते हैं कि एषणा के ४२ दोषों से बचने पर भी हे जीव! यदि तुम ग्रासैषणा के दोषों में लिप्त होते हो तो यह तुम्हारी निर्लज्जता है।'
