The following are the substitutes for roots:(1) भू in the sense of 'To be enough' takes बहुच्छ (हुच according
to Hema.). (2) व्रज् takes वञ्ज ( वुञ according to Hema. ). (3) ब्र takes बुव ( optionally according to Hema.) (4) दृश् has पस्स and ग्रह, गण्ह (गृण्ह according to Hema.). (5) तक्षु has छोल्ल. (5) क्रिये ( कृ Pas. ) has कीसु.
Markaņdeya treats two subdivisions of the Apabhramis'a which has many divisions according to the countries in which they are spoken ('षष्ठोऽत्र भूरिभेदो देशविशेषादपभ्रंशः' रुद्रट). These two divisions are Nâgara and Vrâchada. According to him the following are the substitutes of roots:वद्-बोल्ल; दृश्-- पुम्म or देक्ख, दृश Causal-दाक्खव; आचक्षु-चक्ख; स्था-थक्क; ग्रह--गुण्ह; कृञ्-कर; व्र-वञ्च; प्रविश्-पसवः आश्लिष् -आरुण्ण; मुच्-मुक्क-मुअ-मुल्ल-मुञ्च-मोअ; तिम् and स्तिम्-तिअ; स्था causal-ठव; आनी-आणाव. ब्राचड Apabhramsa is the one used in Sindh. Of this the
following are the chief characteristics:(1) य् is prefixed to चू and ज्
रचलइ, रजसइ (2) पू and स् are changed to शू
माणुशो, दाशो (3) खग is changed to खण्डु (4) qy is changed to ag and a to at.
