छप्पओ । कस्फलम्-कप्फलं । खड्गः--खग्गो । षड्जः-सज्जो । उत्पलम् - उप्पलं । उत्पातः-उप्पाओ । मद्गुः-मग्गू । मुद्गः-मुग्गो । मुद्गरः-मुग्गरो -मोग्गरो। सुप्तः-सुत्तो । गुप्तः-गुत्तो। निश्चलः-णिच्चलो-निच्चलो। गोष्ठी-गोट्ठी। षष्ठः-छट्ठो । शुष्कं सुकं । निष्ठुरः-निहरो-णिटुरो। स्नेहः --नेहो-हो । समस्त:--समत्तो । निःस्पृहः-णिप्पिहो-निप्पिहो । दुःखम् -दुक्खं । अन्तः पातः- अंतप्पाओ । पर्याप्तः-पज्जत्तो। If the consonunt that is doubled is the second or the fourth letter of a class, the preceding doubled letter is changed to the first letter of the class if the succeeding member is the second letter of the class and to the third letter, if the succeeding member is the fourth letter of the class. This is according to the Satra'पूर्वमुपरि वर्गस्य युजः ॥ १। ४ । ९४ ॥ p. 48e. g. छट्ठो, दुक्खं, दुद्धं, मुद्धं &c. Also व्याख्यानम्-वक्खाणं । अर्घः-अग्यो । मूर्छा-मुच्छा । निर्झरःणिज्झरो। लुब्धः-लुद्धो। निर्भरः-णिब्भरो। दृष्टिः-दिट्ठी । यष्टिः-लट्ठी। वक्षः-वच्छो। पुष्पम्-पुप्फ । यक्षः-जक्खो । अस्थि-अट्ठी। निस्तारःणित्थारो । लक्ष्मीः-लच्छी। The following are instances of the doubling of a consonant which is a substitute for a conjunct consonant:
रक्तः-रग्गो। शक्तः-सको । अमात्यः-अमच्चो । आत्मा-अप्पा। e.g. (c) उल्का-उक्का । वल्कलम्-वक्कलं । शब्दः-सद्दो । अब्दः-अद्दो। लब्धः
लद्धो । लुब्धकः-लुद्धओ । अर्कः-अको । वर्गः-वग्गो । तर्कः-तको ( In all these cases, ल, व् , and र् are the first members of conjunct consonants उपरि वर्तमानाः). लक्षणम्-सण्हं । विक्लवः-विक्कवो । पक्वम्-पिकं । ध्वस्तः-धत्थो । चक्रम्चक्कं । शक्रः-सको । ग्रहः-गहो । रात्रिः -रत्ती । ( In these cases, लू, व, and र् are the second members of conjunct consonants
अधो वर्तमानाः). e. g. (d) युग्मम्-जुग्गं । रश्मिः -रस्सी । स्मरः-सरो । वाग्मी-वग्गी । नग्नः
नग्गो । लग्न:- लग्गो । मनः-मग्गो । श्यामा-सामा । कुड्यम्-कुटुं । सौम्यः-सोम्मो । योग्यः-जोग्गो।
'अहः' in the Sutra shows that र and are not doublede.g. विह्वल:-विहलो ( Vide 'लवरामधश्च' explained above ) । दुःखम्
दुहं । बाष्पः-वाहो । धात्री-धारी । तूर्यम्-तूरं । धैर्यम्-धीरं ।
