पद्मपुराणे
लङ्कायां सर्वलोकस्य वाष्पदुर्दिनकारिणः । शोकेनैव व्यलीयन्त महता कुटिमान्यपि ॥१५॥ शेषभूतव्यपोहेन जलात्मकमिवाभवत् । नयनेभ्यः प्रवृत्तेन वारिणा भुवनं तदा ॥४६॥ हृदयेषु पदं चक्रुस्तापाः परमदुःसहाः । नेत्रवारिप्रवाहेभ्यो भीता इव समन्ततः ॥४७॥ धिधिकष्टमहो हा ही किमिदं जातसद्भुतम् । एवं निर्जग्मुरालापा जनेभ्यो वापसङ्गताः ॥४८॥ भूमिशय्यासु मौनेन केचिनियमिताननाः । निष्कम्पविग्रहास्तस्थुः पुस्तकर्मगता इव ॥१६॥ बभजुः केचिदस्त्राणि चिक्षिपुर्भूषणानि च । रमणीवदनाम्भोजदृष्टिद्वेषमुपागताः ॥५०॥ उज्जैनिश्वासवातूलैदाधिष्ठः कलुषैरलम् । अमञ्चदिव तददःखं प्रारोहान्विरलेतरान ॥५१॥ केचित् संसारभावेभ्यो निर्वेदं परमागताः । चक्रुदैगम्बरी दीक्षां मानसे जिनभाषिताम् ॥५२॥ अथ तस्य दिनस्यान्ते महाससमन्वितः । 'अप्रमेयबल: ख्यातो लङ्कां प्राप्तो मुनीश्वरः ॥५३॥ रावणे जीवति प्राप्तो यदि स्यात् स महामुनिः । लचमणेन समं प्रीतिर्जाता स्यात्तस्य पुष्कला ॥५४॥ तिष्ठन्ति मुनयो यस्मिन् देशे परमलब्धयः । तथा केवलिनस्तत्र योजनानां शतद्वयम् ।।५।। पृथिवी स्वर्गसङ्काशा जायते निरुपद्रवा । वैरानुबन्धमुक्ताश्च भवन्ति निकटे नृपाः ॥५६॥ अमूतत्वं यथा व्योम्नश्चलत्वमनिलस्य च । महामुनेनिसर्गेण लोकस्यालादनं तथा ॥५७॥ अनेकाद्भुतसम्पन्ननिभिः स समावृतः । यथाऽगतस्तथा वक्तुं केन श्रेणिक शक्यते ॥५॥
सुवर्णकुम्भसङ्काशः संयतद्वर्या स सङ्गतः । आगत्याऽऽवासितो धीमानुद्याने कुसुमायुधे ॥५६॥ समय लङ्कामें जब कि सब लोग दुर्दिनकी भाँति लगातार अश्रुओंकी वर्षा कर रहे थे तब ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो वहाँ के फर्स भी बहुत भारी शोकके कारण पिघल गये हों ॥४५॥ उस समय लङ्कामें जहाँ देखो वहाँ नेत्रोंसे पानी ही पानी झर रहा था इससे ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो संसार अन्य तीन भूतोंको दूर कर केवल जल रूप ही हो गया था ।।४६।। सब ओर बहनेवाले नेत्र-जलके प्रवाहोंसे भयभीत होकर ही मानो अत्यन्त दुःसह सन्तापोंने हृदयों में स्थान जमा रक्खा था ।।४७॥ धिक्कार हो, धिक्कार हो, हाय-हाय बड़े कष्टकी बात है, अहो हा ही यह क्या अद्भुत कार्य हो गया, उस समय लोगों के मुखसे अश्रआके साथ-साथ ऐसे ही शब्द निकल रहे थे ।।४८|कितने ही लोग मौनसे मुँह बन्दकर पृथ्वीरूपी शय्यापर निश्चल शरीर होकर इस प्रकार बैठे थे मानो मिट्टी के पुतले ही हो ॥४६॥ कितने ही लोगोंने शस्त्र तोड़ डाले, आभूषण फेंक दिये और स्त्रियोंके मुख कमलसे दृष्टि हटा ली ॥५०॥ कितने ही लोगोंके मुखसे गरम लम्बे और कलुषित श्वासके बघरूले निकल रहे थे जिससे ऐसा जान पड़ता था मानो उनका दुःख अविरल अंकुर ही छोड़ रहा हो ॥५१॥ कितने ही लोग संसारसे परम निर्वेदको प्राप्त हो मनमें जिन-कथित दिगम्बर दीक्षाको धारण कर रहे थे ।।५२।।।
अथानन्तर उस दिनके अन्तिम पहरमें अनन्तवीर्य नामक मुनिराज महासंघके साथ लङ्का नगरीमें आये ॥५३॥ गौतमस्वामी कहते हैं कि यदि रावणके जीवित रहते वे महामुनि लङ्कामें आये होते तो लक्ष्मणके साथ रावणकी घनी प्रीति होती ॥५४॥ क्योंकि जिस देशमें ऋद्धिधारी मुनिराज और केवली विद्यमान रहते हैं वहाँ दो सौ योजनतककी पृथ्वी स्वर्गके सदृश सर्वप्रकारके उपद्रवोंसे रहित होती है और उनके निकट रहनेवाले राजा निर्वैर हो जाते हैं ॥५५५६।। जिस प्रकार आकाशमें अमूर्तिकपना और वायुमें चञ्चलता स्वभावसे हैं उसी प्रकार महामुनिमें लोगोंको आह्लादित करनेकी क्षमता स्वभावसे ही होती है ॥५७॥ गौतमस्वामी कहते हैं कि हे श्रेणिक ! अनेक आश्चर्यों से युक्त मुनियोंसे घिरे हुए वे अनन्तवीर्य मुनिराज लङ्कामें जिस प्रकार आये थे उसका कथन कौन कर सकता है ? ॥५८।। जो अनेक ऋद्धियोंसे सहित होनेके

Some people sat silently on the ground, their faces still, their bodies motionless, as if they were clay statues. ||49||
Some people broke their weapons, threw away their ornaments, and turned away their eyes from the faces of women, like lotus flowers. ||50||
From the mouths of many people, hot, long, and polluted breaths were coming out, as if their sorrow was sprouting endlessly. ||51||
Some people, having attained complete detachment from the world, were taking the Digambara initiation, as spoken by the Jinas, in their minds. ||52||
Then, at the end of that day, the Muni Anantavirya, accompanied by a great assembly of monks, arrived in Lanka. ||53||
Gautama Swami says, "If that great Muni had come to Lanka while Ravana was alive, there would have been great affection between Ravana and Lakshmana." ||54||
For in the land where the Muni, endowed with great powers, and the Kevali reside, the earth for two hundred yojanas around becomes like heaven, free from all troubles, and the kings who live nearby become free from enmity. ||55-56||
Just as the sky is naturally formless and the wind is naturally fickle, so too does the great Muni naturally have the power to bring joy to people. ||57||
Gautama Swami says, "O Shrenika, who can describe how Anantavirya Muni, surrounded by many wondrous monks, arrived in Lanka?" ||58||
