पपुराणे
यदि तावदसौ नभश्चरेन्द्रो व्यसनं प्राप पराङ्गनाहिताशः । निधनं गतवाननङ्गरोगः' किमुतान्यो रतिरङ्गनासुभावः (१) ॥१७२॥ सततं सुखसेवितोऽप्यसौयद् दशवक्त्रो वरकामिनीसहस्रः । अवितृप्तमतिर्विनाशमागादितरस्तृप्तिमुपेष्यतीति मोहः ॥१७३॥ स्वकलत्रसुखं हितं रहित्वा परकान्ताभिरतिं करोति पापः । व्यसनार्णवमत्युदारमेष प्रविशत्येव विशुष्कदारुकल्पः ॥१७४॥ व्रजत त्वरिता जना भवन्तो बलदेवप्रमुखाः पदं गता यत्र । जिनशासनभक्तिरागरक्ताः सुदृढं प्राप्य यथाबलं सुवृत्तम् ॥१७५।। सुकृतस्य फलेन जन्तुरुचैः पदमाप्नोति सुसम्पदा निधानम् । दुरितस्य फलेन तत्तु दुःखं कुगतिस्थं समुपैत्ययं स्वभावः ॥१७६॥ कुकृतं प्रथमं सुदीर्घरोषः परपीडाभिरतिर्वचश्च रूक्षम् । सुकृतं विनयः श्रुतं च शीलं सदयं वाक्यममत्सरः शमश्च ॥१७७॥ न हि कश्चिदहो ददाति किञ्चिदविणारोग्यसुखादिकं जनानाम् । अपि नाम यदा सुरा ददन्ते बहवः किन्तु विदुःखितास्तदेते ॥१७॥ बहुधा गदितेन किन्न्वनेन पदमेकं सुबुधा निबुध्य यत्नात् । बहुभेदविपाककर्मसूक्तं तदुपायातिविधौ सदा रमध्वम् ॥१७॥
अनुष्टुप् उपायाः परमार्थस्य कथितास्तत्त्वतो बुधाः । सेव्यन्तां शक्तितो येन निष्क्रामत भवार्णवात् ॥१०॥
इससे इतना सिद्ध है कि बुरा चरित्र कभी शान्तिके लिए नहीं होता ॥१७१॥ जब कि परस्त्रीको आशा रखनेवाला विद्याधरोंका राजा-रावण कष्टको प्राप्त होता हुआ अन्तमें मरणको प्राप्त हुआ तब साक्षात् रति-क्रीड़ा करनेवाले अन्य काम रोगीकी तो कथा ही क्या है ? ॥१७२॥ हजारों उत्तमोत्तम स्त्रियाँ जिसकी निरन्तर सेवा करती थीं ऐसा रावण भी जब अतृप्तबुद्धि होता हुआ मरणको प्राप्त हुआ तब अन्य मनुष्य तृप्तिको प्राप्त होगा यह कहना मोह ही है ॥१७३॥ अपनी स्त्रीके हितकारी सुखको छोड़कर जो पापी पर-त्रियोंमें प्रेम करता है वह सूखी लकड़ीके समान दुःखरूपी बड़े सागरमें नियमसे प्रवेश करता है ।।१७४।। अहो भव्य जनो! तुम लोग जिनशासनकी भक्तिरूपी रङ्गमें रँगकर तथा शक्तिके अनुसार सुदृढ़ चारित्रको ग्रहणकर शीघ्र ही उस स्थानको जाओ जहाँ कि बलदेव आदि महापुरुप गये हैं ॥१७५।। पुण्यके फलसे यह जीव उच्च पद तथा उत्तम सम्पत्तियोंका भण्डार प्राप्त करता है और पापके फलसे कुगति सम्बन्धी दुःख पाता है यह स्वभाव है ॥१७६।। अत्यधिक क्रोध करना, परपीड़ामें प्रीति रखना, और रूक्ष वचन बोलना यह प्रथम कुकृत अर्थात् पाप है और विनय, श्रुत, शील, दया सहित वचन, अमात्सर्य और क्षमा ये सब सुकृत अर्थात् पुण्य हैं ॥१७७॥ अहो ! मनुष्यों के लिए धन आरोग्य तथा सुखादिक कोई नहीं देता है। यदि यह कहा जाय कि देव देते हैं तो वे स्वयं अधिक संख्यामें दुःखी क्यों हैं ? ॥१७८।। बहुत कहनेसे क्या ? हे विद्वज्जनो! यत्नपूर्वक एक प्रमुख आत्म पदको तथा नाना प्रकारके विपाकसे परिपूर्ण कोंके स्वरसको अच्छी तरह जानकर सदा उसीकी प्राप्तिके उपायोंमें रमण करो ॥१७६॥ हे विद्वज्जनो! हमने इस ग्रन्थमें परमार्थकी प्राप्तिके उपाय कहे हैं सो उन्हें शक्तिपूर्वक काममें लाओ जिससे संसाररूपी सागरसे पार हो

**175.** O noble ones! Quickly go to the place where Baldeva and other great souls have gone, imbued with the love of the Jain teachings and having attained a strong and virtuous character according to your capacity.

**176.** By the fruits of good deeds, a being attains a high position and a treasure of great wealth. By the fruits of evil deeds, it suffers the misery of a bad rebirth. This is the nature of things.

**177.** Excessive anger, delight in harming others, and harsh speech are the first signs of evil deeds. Humility, learning, good conduct, compassionate speech, non-envy, and forgiveness are all good deeds.

**178.** Alas! No one gives wealth, health, happiness, or anything else to humans. Even if it is said that the gods give these things, why are they themselves so numerous in their suffering?

**179.** What is the point of saying much? O wise ones! With effort, understand the one supreme Self and the essence of karma, which is full of diverse results. Always delight in the means of attaining it.

**180.** O wise ones! We have described the means of attaining the ultimate truth in this text. Employ them with all your might so that you may cross the ocean of existence.
