एकसप्ततितम पर्व
अपूर्वकौमुदीसर्गप्रवीणः सोऽयमुद्गतः । अङ्गदेन्दुर्दशास्यस्य नगयां पश्य निर्भयः ॥१४॥ किमनेनेदमारब्धं कथमेतद्भविष्यति । क्रीडेयं 'लडिताऽमुष्य 'निरघा किन्नु सेत्स्यति ॥१५॥ रावणालयबाह्यमामणिकुट्टिमसङ्गताः । ग्राहवत्सरसोऽभिज्ञास्त्रासमीयुः पदातयः ॥१६॥ रूपनिश्चलतां दृष्ट्वा निर्मातमणिकुट्टिमाः । पुनः प्रसरणं चक्रर्भटाः विस्मयपूरिताः ॥१७॥ पर्वतेन्द्रगुहाकारे महारत्न विनिर्मिते । गम्भीरे भवनद्वारे मणितोरणभासुरे ।।१८।। अञ्जनाद्रिप्रतीकाशानिन्द्रनीलमयान् गजान् । स्निग्धगण्डस्थलान् स्थूलदन्तानत्यन्तभासुरान् ।।१६।। सिंहबालांश्च तन्मूर्धन्यस्ताख़ीनूद्ध बालधीन् । दंष्ट्राकरालवदनान् भीषणाक्षान् सुकेसरान् ॥२०॥ दृष्ट्वा पादचरास्त्रस्ताः सत्यव्यालाभिशकिताः । पलायितु समारब्धाः प्राप्ता विह्वलतां पराम् ॥२१॥ ततोऽङ्गदकुमारेण तदभिज्ञेन कृच्छूतः । प्रबोधिता प्रतीपं ते पदानि निदधुश्चिरात् ॥२२॥ प्रविष्टाश्च चलनेत्रा भटाः शङ्कासमन्विताः । रावणस्य गृहं सैंहं पदं मृगगणा इव ॥२३॥ द्वाराण्युल्लध्य भूरोणि परतो गन्तुमक्षमाः । गहने गृहविन्यासे जात्यन्धा इव बभ्रमुः ॥२४॥ इन्द्रनीलारिमका भित्तीः पश्यन्तो द्वारमोहिनः । भाकाशाशकयोपेतु स्फटिकच्छमसम्मसु ॥२५॥ शिलाताडितमूर्धानः पतिता रभसात्पुनः । परमाकुलता प्राप्ता वेदनाकूणितेक्षणाः ॥२६॥ कथञ्चिजातसञ्चाराः कक्षान्तरमुपाश्रिताः । वजन्तो रभसा सक्ता नभःस्फटिकभित्तिषु ॥२७॥ क्षुण्णा िजानवम्तीवललाटस्फोटदुःखिताः । निववर्तिववोऽप्येते न ययुनिर्गमं पुनः ॥२८॥

अपूर्व चाँदनीकी सृष्टि करने में निपुण है ऐसा यह अङ्गद रूपी चन्द्रमा रावणकी नगरीमें निर्भय हो उदित हआ है ॥१२-१४॥ देख, इसने यह क्या प्रारम्भ कर रक्खा है? यह कैसे होगा? क्या इसकी यह सुन्दर क्रीड़ा निर्दोष सिद्ध होगी ? ॥१५॥
तदनन्तर जब अङ्गदके पदाति रावणके भवन की मणिमय बाह्यभूमिमें पहुंचे तो उसे मगरमच्छसे युक्त सरोवर समझकर भयको प्राप्त हुए ॥१६॥ पश्चात् उस भूमिके रूपकी निश्चलता देख जब उन्हें निश्चय हो गया कि यह तो मणिमय फर्स है तब कहीं वे आश्चर्यसे चकित होते हुए आगे बढ़े ॥१७॥ सुमेरुकी गुहाके आकार, बड़े-बड़े रत्नोंसे निर्मित तथा मणिमय तोरणोंसे देदीप्यमान- जब भवनके विशाल द्वार पर पहुँचे तो वहाँ, जो अंजनगिरिके समान थे, जिनके गण्डस्थल अत्यन्त चिकने थे, जिनके बड़े-बड़े दाँत थे, तथा जो अत्यन्त देदीप्यमान थे ऐसे इन्द्रनीलमणि निर्मित हाथियोंको और उनके मस्तकपर जिन्होंने पैर जमा रक्खे थे, जिनकी पूंछ ऊँपरको उठी हुई थी, जिनके मुख दाँढोंसे अत्यन्त भयंकर थे, जिनके नेत्रोंसे भय टपक रहा था तथा जिनकी मनोहर जटाएँ थीं ऐसे सिंहके बच्चोंको देख सचमुचके हाथी तथा सिंह समझ पैदल सैनिक भयभीत हो गये और परम बिह्वलताको प्राप्त होते हुए भागने लगे ॥१८-२१॥ तदनन्तर उनके यथार्थ रूपके जानने वाले अङ्गदने जब उन्हें समझाया तब कहीं बड़ो कठिनाईसे बहुत देर वाद उन्होंने उल्टे पैर रक्खे अर्थात् वापिस लौटे ।।२२।। जिनके नेत्र चञ्चल हो रहे थे ऐसे योद्धाओंने रावणके भवनमें डरते-डरते इस प्रकार प्रवेश किया जिस प्रकार कि मृगोंके झण्ड सिंहके स्थानमें प्रवेश करते हैं ।।२३।। बहुतसे द्वारोंको उल्लंघकर जब वे आगे जानेके लिए असमर्थ हो गये तब सघन भवनोंकी रचनामें जन्मान्धके समान इधर-उधर भटकने लगे ॥२४॥ वे इन्द्रनीलमणि निर्मित दीवालोंको देखकर उन्हें द्वार समझने लगते थे और स्फटिक मणियोंसे खचित भवनोंको आकाश समझ उनके पास जाते थे जिसके फल स्वरूप दोनों ही स्थानोंमें शिलाओंसे मस्तक टकरा जानेके कारण वे वेगसे गिर जाते थे, अत्यधिक आकुलताको प्राप्त होते थे और वेदनाके कारण उनके नेत्र बन्द हो जाते थे ॥२५-२६।। किसी तरह उठकर आगे बढ़ते थे तो दूसरी कक्षमें पहुँच कर फिर आकाशस्फटिककी दीवालोंमें वेगसे टकरा जाते थे ॥२७॥ जिनके

They reached the grand entrance of the palace, built with great jewels, resembling the cave of Mount Meru, shining with jewel-studded arches. ||18||

They also saw lion cubs, with their tails raised, their mouths fierce with fangs, their eyes terrifying, and their beautiful manes, standing on the heads of these elephants. ||20||

Seeing these, the foot soldiers, mistaking them for real elephants and lions, were terrified and fled, reaching the utmost state of bewilderment. ||21||

Then, Angada, knowing their true nature, explained to them, and with great difficulty, they turned back after a long time. ||22||

The soldiers, with their eyes darting about, entered Ravana's palace, filled with fear, like a herd of deer entering a lion's den. ||23||

They crossed many doors, but unable to go further, they wandered about in the dense palace structure, like the blind born. ||24||

Seeing the walls made of indigo lapis lazuli, they mistook them for doors, and seeing the buildings studded with crystal gems, they went towards them, mistaking them for the sky. As a result, they fell from both places, their heads hitting the stones, and they were filled with great distress, their eyes closed in pain. ||25-26||

Somehow, they got up and moved forward, but reaching another chamber, they again collided with the sky-crystal walls. ||27||

Their foreheads were bruised, and they were in pain from the impact, but they could not find their way out. ||28||
