पद्मपुराणे
वंशस्थवृत्तम् बिमर्ति तावद् दृढनिश्चयं जनः प्रभोर्मुखं पश्यति यावदुन्नतम् । 'गते विनाशं स्वपतौ विशीर्यते यथारचक्रं परिशीर्णतुम्बकम् ॥४७॥
उपेन्द्रवज्रावृत्तम् सनिश्चितानामपि संनराणां विना प्रधानेन न कार्ययोगः । शिरस्यपेते हि शरीरबन्धः प्रपद्यते सर्वत एव नाशम् ॥४॥ प्रधानसंबन्धमिदं हि सर्व जगद्यथेष्टं फलमभ्युपैति ।
राहपसृष्टस्य रवेविनाशं प्रयाति मन्दो निकरः कराणाम् ॥४९॥ इत्यार्षे श्रीरविषेणाचार्यप्रोक्त पद्मपुराणे हस्तप्रहस्तवधाभिधानं नामाष्टपञ्चाशत्तमं पर्व ॥५८॥
पृथ्वीपर पड़ा देख रावणकी सेना, नायकसे रहित होनेके कारण विमुख हो गयी-भाग खड़ी हुई ॥४६॥ सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि जबतक यह मनुष्य, स्वामीके ऊँचे उठे मुखको देखता रहता है तभी तक निश्चयको धारण करता है और जब अपना स्वामी नष्ट हो जाता है तब समस्त सेना जिसका पुट्ठा बिखर गया है ऐसी गाड़ीके पहियेके समान बिखर जाती है ॥४७॥ आचार्य कहते हैं कि यद्यपि निश्चित किये हुए मनुष्योंका कार्य किसी प्रधान पुरुष के बिना नहीं होता है क्योंकि शिर नष्ट हो जानेपर शरीर सब ओर से नाश ही को प्राप्त होता है ।।४८|| प्रधानके साथ सम्बन्ध रखनेवाला यह समस्त जगत् यथेष्ट फलको प्राप्त होता है, सो ठोक ही है क्योंकि राहुके द्वारा आक्रान्त सूर्यको किरणोंका समूह मन्द होता हुआ विनाशको ही प्राप्त होता है ॥४९।।
इस प्रकार आर्ष नामसे प्रसिद्ध, रविषेणाचार्य विरचित पद्मपुराणमें हस्त-प्रहस्तके
वधका कथन करनेवाला अट्ठावनवाँ पर्व समाप्त हुआ ॥५॥
