पद्मपुराणे इत्युक्ताः संमदोपेताः संनद्धाः परमौजसः । नानाकल्पाः खगा जग्मुर्दिशो दश यशोर्थिनः ।।५७।। अथार्कजटिनः सूनुर्नाम्ना रत्नजटी खगः । खड़गी द्रागिति शुश्राव दूरतो रुदितध्वनिम् ॥५८॥ आशां च भजमानस्तामाकर्णदिति निस्वनम् । हा राम हा कुमारेति जलधेरूध्वमम्बरे ॥५९॥ परिदेवननिस्वानं श्रुत्वा तं सपरिस्फुटम् । समुत्पपात तं देशं विमानं यावदीक्षते ॥६॥ अस्योपरि परिक्रन्दं कुर्वन्तीमतिविह्वलाम् । वैदेहीं स समालोक्य बभाण क्रोधपूरितः ॥६॥ तिष्ट तिष्ठ महापाप दुष्ट विद्याधराधम । कृत्वापराधमीदृक्षं व त्वया गम्यतेऽधुना ॥६२।। दयितां रामदेवस्य प्रभामण्डलसोदराम् । मुञ्च शीघ्रमभीष्टं ते जीवितं यदि दुर्मते ॥६३॥ ततो दशाननोऽप्येनमाकोश्य परुषरवनम् । युद्धे समुद्यतः क्रुद्धो विहलीभूतमानसः ॥६४।। पुनश्चाचिन्तययुद्धे प्रवृत्ते सति विह्वला । मयानिरूपिता सीता कदाचित्पञ्चतां भजेत् ॥६५॥ आकुलां रक्षता चैतां परमव्याकुलात्मना । न व्यापादयितुं शक्यः क्षुद्रोऽप्येष नभश्चरः ॥६६॥ इति संचित्य संभ्रान्तश्लथमौल्युत्तराम्बरः । 'खस्थस्य रत्नजटिनो बली विद्यामपाहरत् ॥६७॥ अथ रत्नजटी वस्तः किंचिदान्त्रप्रभावतः । पपात शनकैरुल्कास्फुलिङ्ग इव मेदिनीम् ॥६॥ समुदजलमध्यस्थं कम्बुद्वीपं समाश्रितः । आयुर्वतनसामर्थ्याद्भग्न पोतो यथा वणिक ॥६५॥
निश्चलश्च क्षणं स्थित्वा समुच्छवस्यायतं भृशम् । कम्बुपर्वतमारुह्य दिशाचक्र व्यलोकयत् ॥७॥ पर्वत, जल, स्थल, वन अथवा नगरमें कहीं भी ले जायी गयी हो यत्नपूर्वक समस्त दिशाओंमें सब ओरसे उसकी खोज करो। हे महायोद्धाओ ! खोज करनेपर तुम लोग जो चाहोगे वह प्रदान करूँगा ॥५४-५६॥ इस प्रकार कहनेपर हर्षसे युक्त, अस्त्र-शस्त्रसे सुसज्जित, परम तेजके धारक, नाना प्रकारकी वेष-भूषासे सुशोभित और यशके इच्छुक विद्याधर दशों दिशाओं में गये ॥५७॥
__ अथानन्तर अर्कजटीके पुत्र रत्नजटी नामक खड्गधारी विद्याधरने दूरसे शीघ्र ही रोनेका शब्द सुना ॥५८॥ जिस दिशासे रोनेका शब्द आ रहा था उसी दिशामें जाकर उसने समुद्रके ऊपर आकाशमें 'हा राम ! हा कुमार लक्ष्मण !' इस प्रकारका शब्द सुना ॥५९॥ विलापके साथ आते हुए उस अत्यन्त स्पष्ट शब्दको सुनकर जब वह उस स्थानकी ओर उड़ा तब उसने एक विमान देखा ॥६०।। उस विमानके ऊपर विलाप करती हुई अतिशय विह्वल सीताको देखकर वह क्रोधयुक्त हो बोला कि अरे ठहर-ठहर, महापापी दुष्ट नीच विद्याधर ! ऐसा अपराध कर अब तू कहाँ जाता है ? ॥६१-६२॥ हे दुर्बुद्धे ! यदि तुझे जीवन इष्ट है तो रामदेवको स्त्री और भामण्डलकी बहनको शीघ्र ही छोड़ ॥६३॥ तदनन्तर कर्कश शब्द कहनेवाले रत्नजटोके प्रति कर्कश शब्दोंका उच्चारण कर क्रोधसे भरा तथा विह्वल चित्तका धारक रावण युद्ध करनेके लिए उद्यत हुआ ॥६४। फिर उसने विचार किया कि 'युद्ध होनेपर मैं इस विह्वल सीताको देख नहीं सकूँगा और उस दशामें सम्भव है कि यह कदाचित् मृत्युको प्राप्त हो जाये और यदि इस घबड़ायी हुई सीताकी रक्षा भी करता रहूँगा तो अत्यन्त व्याकुल चित्त होनेके कारण, यद्यपि यह विद्याधर क्षुद्र है तो भी मेरे द्वारा मारा नहीं जा सकेगा' ॥६५-६६।। इस प्रकार विचारकर हाबड़ाहटके कारण जिसके मुकुट और उत्तरीय वस्त्र शिथिल हो गये थे ऐसे बलवान् रावणने आकाशमें स्थित रत्नजटी विद्याधरकी विद्या हर ली ॥६७।।
अथानन्तर भयभीत रत्नजटी किसी मन्त्रके प्रभावसे उल्काके समान धीरे-धीरे पृथ्वीपर आ पड़ा ॥६८। जिसका जहाज डूब गया है ऐसे वणिक्के समान वह आयुका अस्तित्व शेष रहनेके कारण समुद्र जलके मध्यमें स्थित कम्बुनामक द्वीपमें पहुँचा ॥६९।। वहाँ वह क्षण-भर निश्चल बैठा १. -यति निस्वनम् म. । २. यदि देवेन म.। ३ मतिविह्वलाम् म.। ४. प्रवर्ते म.। ५. रक्षितां म. । ६. स्वस्थस्य म. । ७. बलवान् रावणः ।

**Verse 57:** Thus spoken, the Vidyadevas, filled with joy, armed, and possessing great energy, adorned with various ornaments, and desirous of fame, flew in all ten directions.

**Verse 59:** Following the sound of weeping, he reached the direction from where it came and heard in the sky above the ocean, "Oh Rama! Oh Kumar Lakshmana!"

**Verse 61-62:** Seeing Sita, extremely distraught, lamenting atop the Vimana, he, filled with anger, said, "Stop! Stop, you wicked, vile, low Vidyadeva! Having committed such a crime, where do you think you are going now?

**Verse 63:** Oh foolish one! If you desire life, then quickly release the wife of Ramadeva and the sister of the Bhamandala."

**Verse 64:** Then, Ravana, filled with anger and with a disturbed mind, addressed Ratnajaati with harsh words, ready to fight.

**Verse 65-66:** Then, he thought, "If a battle ensues, I will not be able to see this distraught Sita, and in that state, she might meet her end. And even if I protect this frightened Sita, with my extremely troubled mind, I will not be able to kill this Vidyadeva, even though he is insignificant."

**Verse 67:** Thus, thinking, with his crown and upper garment loosened due to agitation, the powerful Ravana took away the Vidya of the aerial Ratnajaati.

**Verse 68:** Then, the frightened Ratnajaati, due to the effect of some mantra, fell slowly to the earth like a meteor.

**Verse 69:** Like a merchant whose ship has sunk, he, with the remaining essence of his life, reached the island called Kambu, situated in the middle of the ocean.

**Verse 70:** There, he sat still for a moment, then, with great effort, climbed the Kambu mountain and looked in all directions.

**Verse 54-56:** "Search diligently in all directions, in mountains, water, land, forests, or cities, wherever she might have been taken. Oh great warriors! Whatever you desire, I will grant it to you upon finding her."
