पद्मपुराणे
सिच्यमाने मृगाधीशं लक्ष्क्ष्या कीर्त्या च सादरम् । कलशैश्चावमानास्यकमलैश्चारुवारिभिः ॥१३॥ आत्मानं चातितुङ्गस्य भूभृतो मूर्धनि स्थितम् । पश्यन्तं मेदिनीं स्फीतां निम्नगापतिमेखलाम् ॥१४॥ स्फुरस्किरणजालं च दिवसाधिपविभ्रमम् । नानारत्नोचितं चक्रं सौम्यं कृतविवर्तनम् ॥१५|| वीक्ष्य मङ्गलनादेन तथैव कृतबोधना । विनीताकथयत् पत्ये नितान्तं मधुरस्वना ॥१६॥ सूर्युगप्रधानस्ते शत्रचक्रक्षयावहः । भविष्यति महातेजाश्चिनचेष्टो वरानने ॥१७॥ इत्युक्ता सा सती पत्या संमदाक्रान्तमानसा । ययौ निजास्पदं लोकं पश्यन्तीवाधरस्थितम् ॥१८॥ अथानेहसि संपूर्णे पूर्णेन्दुमिवे पूर्वदिक् । असूत तनयं कान्त्या विशालमपराजिता ॥१९॥ दिष्ट्यावर्धनकारिभ्यः प्रयच्छन् वसु पार्थिवः । बभूव चामरच्छत्रपरिधानपरिच्छदः ॥२०॥ जन्मोत्सवो महानस्य चक्रे निःशेषबान्धवैः । महाविभवसंपनेरुन्मत्तीभूतविष्टपः ॥२१॥ तरुणादित्यवर्णस्य पद्मालिङ्गितवक्षसः। पद्मनेत्रस्य पद्माख्या पितृभ्यां तस्य निर्मिता ॥२२॥ सुमित्रापि ततः पुत्रमसूत परमद्युतिम् । छायादिगुणयोगेन सद्रलं रत्नभूरिव ॥२३॥ पद्मजन्मोत्सवस्यानुसंधानमिव कुर्वता । जनितो बन्धुवर्गेण तस्य जन्मोत्सवः परः ॥२४॥ उत्पाता जज्ञिरेऽरातिनगरेषु सहस्रशः । आपदा सूचका बन्धुनगरेषु च संपदाम् ॥२५॥

निर्मल हो गया था ॥१२।। उसने देखा कि लक्ष्मी और कीर्ति आदरपूर्वक, जिनके मुखपर कमल रखे हुए थे तथा जिनमें सुन्दर जल भरा हुआ था ऐसे कलशोंसे सिंहका अभिषेक कर रही हैं ॥१३।। फिर देखा कि मैं स्वयं किसी ऊँचे पर्वतके शिखरपर चढ़कर समुद्ररूपी मेखलासे सुशोभित विस्तृत पृथिवीको देख रही हूँ ।।१४।। इसके बाद उसने देदीप्यमान किरणोंसे युक्त, सूर्यके समान सुशोभित, नाना रत्नोंसे खचित तथा घूमता हुआ सुन्दर चक्र देखा ॥१५॥ इन
वप्नोंको देखकर वह मंगलमय वादित्रोंके शब्दसे जाग उठी। तदनन्तर उसने बडी विनयसे जाकर अत्यन्त मधुर शब्दों द्वारा पतिके लिए स्वप्न-दर्शनका समाचार सुनाया ॥१६॥ इसके उत्तरमें राजा दशरथने बताया कि हे उत्तम मुखको धारण करनेवाली प्रिये ! तुम्हारे ऐसा पुत्र होगा कि जो युगका प्रधान होगा, शत्रुओंके समूहका क्षय करनेवाला होगा, महातेजस्वी तथा अद्भुत चेष्टाओंका धारक होगा ॥१७|| पतिके इस प्रकार कहनेपर जिसका चित्त आनन्दसे व्याप्त हो रहा था ऐसी सुमित्रा रानी अपने स्थान पर चली गयी। उस समय वह समस्त लोकको ऐसा देख रही थी मानो नीचे ही स्थित हो ॥१८॥
अथानन्तर समय पूर्ण होनेपर, जिस प्रकार पूर्व दिशा पूर्ण चन्द्रमाको उत्पन्न करती है उसी प्रकार अपराजिता रानीने कान्तिमान् पुत्र उत्पन्न किया ||१९|| इस भाग्य-वृद्धिको सूचना करनेवाले लोगोंको जब राजा दशरथ धन देने बैठे तो उनके पास छत्र, चमर तथा वस्त्र ही शेष रह गये बाकी सब वस्तुएँ उन्होंने दानमें दे दी ॥२०॥ महा विभवसे सम्पन्न समस्त भाईबान्धवोंने इसका बड़ा भारी जन्मोत्सव किया। ऐसा जन्मोत्सव कि जिसमें सारा संसार उन्मत्तसा हो गया था ॥२१।। - मध्याह्नके सूर्यके समान जिसका वर्ण था, जिसका वक्षःस्थल लक्ष्मीके द्वारा आलिंगित था तथा जिसके नेत्र कमलोंके समान थे ऐसे उस पुत्रका माता-पिताने पद्म नाम रखा ॥२२॥ तदनन्तर जिस प्रकार रत्नोंकी भूमि अर्थात् खान छाया आदि गुणोंसे सम्पन्न उत्तम रत्नको उत्पन्न करती है उसी प्रकार सुमित्राने श्रेष्ठ कान्तिके धारक पुत्रको उत्पन्न किया ।।२३।। पद्मके जन्मोत्सवका मानो अनुसन्धान ही करते हुए बन्धु-वर्गने उसका भी बहुत भारी जन्मोत्सव किया था ॥२४॥ शत्रुओंके नगरोंमें आपत्तियोंकी सूचना देनेवाले हजारों उत्पात होने लगे और बन्धुओंके नगरोंमें सम्पत्तियोंकी सूचना देनेवाले हजारों शुभ चिह्न प्रकट १. प्रधानं म.। २. पूर्णेन्दुरिव म.। .
