MSS. MATERIAL
the daughter of a pious Srāvaka of the Mathurānvaya and devoted to Jainisum Nemichandra by name. He possibly lived at Nřipuri i. e. Narvar. Her two brothers were Gokarn and Sricandra,
The adjectives used for Subhacandra for the author of the Jñānārņava this cannot be ruled out, but should not be insisted upon as a deceiver evidence,
1) The colophons mention Subhacandra only an Acarya and not Yogin. And in this Praśasti the term Acarya is not used.
2) Even if it is presumed that Jābiņi got written a palm-leaf MS. of the dictated draft of the Jñánárnava and presented it to the author himself, it cannot be said that through how many generations it have been passed before it recopied in 1227 A. D.
3) The present copy itself shows that it was chacked and corrected with the help of pretty earlier MS.
Under the circumstances and in the absence of any positive evidence Subhacandra for whom Jāhini prepared a MS. need not be identified with the author himself.
2. Q: This stands for an incomplete palm-leaf MS. of the Jñānārņava taken out from a bigger bundle of palm-leaf MSS. containing some other works. (See the cat. of MSS.)
This microfilm of this portion was kindly spared for my use by Muni Shri Punyavijayaji Mahārāj. The palm-leaves are numbered 21 to 30 on the left side and 135 to 144 on the right side of margin in a coloured spot, on one side of the leaf.
The matter covered in this MS. corresponds to our printed, text verse Nos. 1470 to 1616. ( Chapters 28.29 ). In some aspects this MS. agrees with P but many variant readings different readings from P and agree with others.
The style of writing is more or less like P.b and V, Ś and s are interchange and duplicates of rmm + are usual. Some minor slips of coping are seen here and there. Padimatras are uniformaly used. It opens with the symbol of Bhale. The colophon at the end of 28 runs thus : इत्याचार्यश्रीशुभचन्द्रविरचिते ज्ञानार्णवे सवीर्यध्यानप्रकरणम् । and that at the end of 29 thus : la sua trattar alfaka Nither the verses nor the chapters are numbered.
3. M. This is a palm-leaf MS. belonging to the collection of the Jain Math at Moodbidri (S. A.). Its registered No. is 628. It is written in old Kannad characters and contains complete text of the Jñānārnava.
Its folios measure 47 x 5 cms. Its folios are numbered from 107 to 145. Folio No. 123 is absent. There are 9 to 12 lines on each page and 100 to 122 letters in each line. The first leaf is partly broken.
Uniformaly Anuswär alone is used. The consonants with r is the first member, is doubled. Distinction between i and 1 is not made.
It opens thus : 4: 2: 11 SETTO etc. It ends thus : 11cell fa samo 1919धिकारे आचार्य श्रीशुभचन्द्रविरचिते मोक्षप्रकरणम् ॥ इति ज्ञानार्नव ग्रंथः समाप्तः ॥ श्रीवीतरागाय नमः ॥
