Dresses of the Monks The BHS clearly shows that the monks of all religious sects used various kinds of dresses. There is no instance in the text to cite that complete nudity was observed by them in their ascetic life. On the otherhand it bears ample evidences to show that even the Nirgrantha monks used to wear clothes, as it is revealed by the fact that Lord Mahāvīra himself renounced the world by putting on one piece of divine cloth 1 Bhs, 2, 2, 90. 2 10, 11, 9, 417-418. ?
