PREFACE
We have pleasure in publishing two hitherto unpublished commentaries on the Kāvyakalpalatā of the poet Amaracandra (of Vāyatagaccha). The first commentary, called the Parimala, is an autocommentary (13th Cent.) and the second, styled as the Makaranda, is by śubhavijaya gani of Tapāgaccha, 17th Cent. A. D.). The original work concerns itself with poetics and therein have been discussed such related topics as meter, word, pun, and meaning. We hope and believe that this volume will be useful to scholars and students of Indian poetics.
