the authentic treatises of Jaina philosophy which were all written originally in Sanskrit and Prakrit. The concepts and vocabulary peculiar to the Jain philosophical system have been appropriately adapted by Tēvar to suit his narration and the Tamil language and culture. He has transformed a mere skeleton of Jajna Puranic story into an elaborate 'magnum opus' of Jaina doctrine. The religious and conceptual aspects of the transformation have been explained in this chapter. The linguistic aspect will be dealt with in the next chapter.
