successor-reader Jñanakalasa.13 The handwritting resembles his, though one may not preclude the possibility of these notes being added leter on by Muni Jñanakalaga, when he might have first gone through this Ms. before he taught the work to Muni Merunandana.

13. Shsi Bhavadatta Shastri, the editor of the Nirnaya Sagar Edition of the TM has claimed the credit for these marginal notes himself. cf. the words " "शोधितमुद्रितेऽप्ययस्मिन् प्रन्थेऽस्मत्कृत टिप्पण्यां च" etc. in the last paragraph of Sanskrit introduc tion. The P Ms. is the only palm-leaf Ms. with marginal notes which later on seems to have been copied by the below-mentioned V Ms. The too few footnotes printed in the TM(N) tally varbatim with these margial notes. From a deep personal study of the P Ms., which evidently is the original source material of the V Ms., it has come to my notice that many of the mistakes in the text printed in the TM(N) are the result of incorporating some of the marginal notes in the body of the text of the TM even though they have been clearly differentiated either as texual deficiencies (by the sign x) or explanatory notes (by the sign).
