This lack of correct textual reading have landed the learned author of the Parāga commentary into numerous misinterpretations of the text, apart from many other instances of genuine lack of correct understanding in the case of some of the passages where the text is generally correct."
The above situation, therefore, called for a Critical Text of the TM in the light of all the available manuscripts. And I have compiled the Critical Text on the basis of the original Mss., divided the text into suitable paragraphs after giving them running numbers, so that it may facilitate easy understanding of the contents thereof and easy location of reference to the correspanding explanations in the commentaries etc. It is only with reference to an authentic text critically determined with the help of original Mss. that any serious study, whether literary or cultural, of the work can claim any degree of academic authenticity. 12 I may here confess that it was with a view to first publish the Critical Text of the TM, and revise all the page and line numbers in all the numerous footnotes of all the chapters and appendices of my doctoral thesis based on this critical text in the light of this Critical Edition, that I have chosen to delay the publication of the critical of the study of the TM from the literary as well as the cultural view points, before it is published as a separate volume complementary to this one. 11. Some such misinterpretations. of the latter type, are discussed later on in Section VI of this Intro
duction. 12. As has been known to me so far. three research scholars. if not many more too, have obtained
their doctoral degree on the basis of the previously published incorrect texts of the TM; they are from Aligarh Muslim University, from the Kurukshetra University, and from the Vikrama University.
