XXV આવશ્યકતા છે તેટલી જ જરૂરીયાત ઉત્તરોત્તર લેખકદોષાદિને કારણે અશુદ્ધિના ભંડારરૂપ બની ગએલ જૈન આગમો અને તે ઉપરના નિયુક્તિ-ભાષ્ય આદિ વ્યાખ્યા-ગ્રંથોના અધ્યયન આદિ માટે પ્રાચીન ગ્રંથસ્થ લિપિ અને તેમાંથી લેખકોએ ઉપજાવી કાઢેલા ભ્રામક પાઠો કે વિવિધ પ્રકારના લિપિદોષોના જ્ઞાનની પણ છે.
આ લિપિની મૌલિકતા અને લેખકોએ કરેલી વિકૃતિઓનું ભાન જેટલું વિશેષ એટલી જ ગ્રંથ-સંશોધનમાં સરળતા રહે છે (પૃષ્ઠ ૧૫).
आवश्यकता है उतना ही ज्ञान इस तथ्य का भी होना चाहिए कि उत्तरोत्तर काल में (लेहियों के) लिपिकारों के दोषादि के कारण अशुद्धियों के भंडाररूप जैन आगम और उस पर लिखी गयी नियुक्ति-भाष्य आदि व्याख्या-ग्रंथों के अध्ययन के लिए प्राचीन (ग्रंथों की) लिपिशास्त्र का ज्ञान और उसमें से लिपिकारों के द्वारा कल्पित भ्रामक पाठों के सम्बंध में विविध प्रकार के लिपि-दोषों के ज्ञान की भी उतनी ही आवश्यकता है। इस लिपि का मौलिक स्वरूप और लिपिकारों के द्वारा की गयी विकृतियों की जितनी विशेष समझ उतनी ही ग्रंथ के पाठों के संशोधन में सरलता रहती है।
is also necessary. Due to scribal errors corrupt textual readings were presumed by the copyists and consequently a number of mistakes were committed by the later copyists. As a result of that the language of the Jaina Āgamas, niryuktis as well as bhāsyas (commentarial works) has become a mess of mistakes of corruptions. The extent to which we are conversant with the original character of the script and its deformation by the scribes that much simpler it would be in editing correctly the text of these ancient works.
