________________ 164 प्राकृतसर्वस्वम्। cut definition along with a citation from an unknown work about Audri. None of the known grammarians has given us such definite information regarding this Vibhāṣā, which will go a long way in determining the linguistic feature of the ancient Oriya language. Bharata, despite enumerating Audri as á Vibhāṣā, is silent about its linguistic peculiarity and the characters by whom it is to be spoken in a stage play. Mk's credit lies in this that he alone gives us some idea about this Vibhāṣā, however incomplete it may be. Only the posterity will determine how far authentic are these documents of Mk who wrote such a fine Prākrit Grammar in the middle of the sixteenth century while there was no library facility, no scope for speedy communication between one province and another, while palm leaves and an iron stylus were mostly used as the writing material and above all, while the Prākrit language was almost dead and a thing of history.
