________________ A very good example of this can be quoted from the Shri Matt Temple at Sravanabelagola. The painting belonging to 18th C.A.D. depicts the "Punishment for Kamatha" in which his head is beshaved, hands tied to the back and 2 small children are made to urinate on his head and he is made seated on a donkey taken in procession. This painting clearly shows that more than physical torturing it is the mental torturing that hurts the conscious of a person. where an artist gets a little scope to display his talent. According to Mr. Havell " A temple is a place where Lord Brahma Resides'. But for Jains the temple itself represents the Samavasaran. The temples are helpful in achieving peace of mind for house-holders and Munis to some extent. But today, unfortunately the temples are loosing their moral values. They are just considered as art galleries. Jaina temples aim at elevating our spirit, inspire religious values and present philosophical concepts and rules of conduct laid down in Jainism. The value of the Jinalaya is very well expressed by A charyas as the stepping stone for Moksha, Mukti. Jain Images : The Jina idols installed in the 'Garbha-Greha' of the temple look more or less the same (exept Lord Parswanath). But they are the super pieces of art known for their simplicity Talk slow but think quick. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it. Pray. There is immeasurable power in it. Be gentle with the Earth. Rydric 4 : 24 તીર્થ-સોરભ 966 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
