________________ (d) J has ya for i and / for ya at a number of places while in K and Kh there are only some instances of this kind. (ii) Consonants : (a) J has often retained medial consonants like 8, 1, d, bh and y. (b) K and Kh have scinetimes retained i and bh, and they have some additional instances of dropping medial consonants, too. (c) J, K any Kh have also a few instances of softening medial k. (d) Rare instances of softening t are as follows: aidhranto 33. 87 J, 68. 30 K, Kh, Giribhudi Gobhadi, madi 55. 35 K Kh, samadio 5. 152 Kh. (e) In the following two cases even the Initial consonant is softened : gao for kao 18.54. K, Kh, dhunai for thunai 108.20 K. (f) J has a few cases of changing m to : panavai 19. 17, bhavinie 20. 111. sasambhavo 24. 36. sodavanie 26.81, bhavai 35.13, sävitti 39.35. bhavio 70.32, nivisam 103.70 etc. (lii) Śrutis 1, y and v: (a) + šruti: A few instances of 1 śruti are observed as follows: J has Sasitaha (pa) 5.5, rdo ta (ca) 31. 128, kañcanamatesu (ye) 69.14, Manoramati (di) 90.8. 18to (o) 91.13, tanhatiydim (di) 102.85, chuhatiya (di) 103.158 etc. K has ritü (pa) 5.232, Nárato (da) 90. 4, etc. Kh has rayanaggharikao- (d!) 77.24, manamattagato (jo) 77.71, sarato (ko) 77,26 etc. K and Kh have Sasito (ko) 5.99, ahatan (kam) 17.103. -dharato (o) 59.18, pasdto (do) 77,20. Puhatidharassa (vi) 77.49 etc. (b) ya Sruti : We come across such instances of ya Sruti of long and short a when it is preceded by any vowel, e.g. nissankiyaiesum 14.21, asiya (ya) 20.97, uiyaraga 14.54, cauyanandî 82.2. dayavayanam 16.16, jineyavvo 16.16, loyadhamma 17.22, saho yarim 5.70, etc. Moreover J has va śruti of vowels even other than a and d, e.g. bhaniyum 71.58, dyesada yd 14.19, narayovaga 14.22 etc. (c) va sruti : J has many instances of va śruti (not less than 50 cases over and above those occurr ing in the printed text) whereas there are very few in K and Kh. MS. J : ka=tanadaruvehim 26.9, sovanavan 31.57; gasuvveva 16.84, jabhuval:ngana 16.80: ta= jagujjovakaram 2.30, ujjova 2.100; da=kanao yari 17.55, etc. The other verses in which there are words with va śrtuti are : 2.30, 100; 3.19, 126; 6.69, 105, 106, 152; 7.78; 16.80, 84; 17. 55: 20.20, 76;26.9: 28.128; 30. 89,90; 31.57, 68; 32,43; 33.8; 35.19; 39.97; 40.4; 53.22; 55.34: 58.4. 59.32: 82.59: 93.21; 94.8, 37, 93; 96.1; 91.41; 100.46; 106.6; 108.27; 109.10; 113.6, 59 and 117.42.43 MS K; 8.17, 253; 17.38; 20.147; 94,93; 102.28 and 116.11, MS. Kh: 4.11; 8.167 and 17.38. (iv) Nasals : (a) Initial n; J cerebralises the initial dental in very few cases; nūnar 5.191, jd na raitin 14,139. ma ne ciruvchi 24.38, nei 48 32, etc., whereas K and Kh have such instances more than those in J.
