Scribal Tendencies of the Mss.
A. GENERAL TRAITS IN THE MANUSCRIPTS
(i) Pari and padi as well as dhira and vira are interchangeable. (ii) Ujjata (udyata) is written as ujjuta or ujjuya. (ii) Case Ending ya. There are a few instances of feminine substantives having ya or i case
ending in the place of e. It is archaic and it has been adopted in the acceptable readings
under Appx. 7 as indicated ; (a) ya ending : Mandoyar lya 1.50, 59.63, Bhiyadaviya 1.62, Lamkāpuriya 5.267, 66.20, Lankana
yaralya 7.162,-J; visayasuh,saya 8.107-J, Kh; jananiya 7.95, naiya 10.34-K, Kh; pd yavaschd ya 28.35-K: tiya 30.66, 63.58, 92.14, 101.4,- J; nayariya 31.120 - K: samadiffniya 36.21,-J, K;

Its parallel in Pali is 'yx'. In the Vasudevahindi there are a few instances of 'ya' case-ending. Leumad is of the opinion that ya' is an old for.n which Psäkrit has in common. with Pali, Dr. L. Aldorf subscribes also to this view. (See Bulletin of the School of Oriental Studies' London, Vol. VIII. Pp. 319-34). In Ashokan Inscriptions 'ya' is also prevalent at all places and 'ya' in the north and Dorth-west. In non-Ashokan Inscriptions "ya' is also prevalent and later on there comes 'ye* case-ending that becomes !e! after Caristian era. In the 3rd and 4th Century A, D 'e' has become the standard termination (See Inscriptional Prakrits by Meheandale).
