हरिवंशपुराणे भोजराजकुलयादवक्षये भ्रष्टबन्धुरिति किं विमुह्यसि । सत्यसन्ध मयि ते मम त्वयि प्राणितीह सकलास्ति बन्धुता ॥२४॥ पूर्वजन्मसु बहुध्वनारतं पश्यतो हि तव मामिहापि च । एकताननयनस्य नोदभूत्तप्तिरद्य किमिवासि तृप्तवान् ॥२५॥ त्वां पयोर्थमपहाय मोहतो हा गतेन नररत्नभूषणम् । लोकसारमपहारितं मया सन्निधौ तु मम कोऽस्य हारकः ॥२६॥ कंसकोपमदपर्वताशने नमोगविषग्गरुत्मनः । पीतमागधयशोऽम्बुधेरभूदुगोष्पदे वत निमजनं तव ॥२७॥ शार्वरं तिमिरमुग्रतेजसा शात्र स्वमिव निविधूय यः । विष्टपं तपति विष्टरश्रवः पश्य सोऽस्तमुपयात्यहप॑तिः ॥२८॥ दीर्घनिमिव वीक्ष्य संहृतैरस्तमस्तकनिशितैः करैः । स्वां विशोचति रविवां त्रये स्वाप एष तव कस्य नो शुचे ॥२९॥ वारुणीमतिनिषेव्य वारुणश्चक्रवाकनिवहैरुदश्रुमिः । शोचितः पतति भानुमानधः को न वा पतति वारुणीप्रियः ॥३०॥ शोकमारमपनीय सांप्रतं सन्निमजति पयोनिधी रविः । दातुमेष तव वा जलाञ्जलिं कालविद्धि कुरुते यथोचितम् ॥३१॥
है ! ॥२३।। 'भोजराजका कुल तथा समस्त यादवोंका क्षय हो जानेसे मैं बन्धुरहित हो गया हूँ' यह सोचकर क्या तू मोहको प्राप्त हो रहा है ? पर ऐसा करना उचित नहीं। हे दृढ़प्रतिज्ञ ! यदि तू और मैं जीवित हूँ तो समझ कि हमारे समस्त बन्धुओंका समूह जीवित है ।।२४।। अनेकों पूर्व जन्ममें तथा इस जन्ममें भी निरन्तर मेरी ओर तू स्थिर नयन होकर देखता रहा फिर भी तुझे तृप्ति नहीं हुई फिर आज तू तृप्त कैसे हो गया ? ॥२५॥ हाय ! मोहवश तुझे अकेला छोड़ पानीके लिए गये हुए मैंने लोकके सारभूत नररूपी रत्नोंका आभूषण अपहृत करा लिया। अन्यथा मेरे पास रहते इसे हरनेवाला कौन था ? ॥२६|| अरे भाई ! तू तो कंसके क्रोध और मदरूपी पर्वतको नष्ट करनेके लिए वज्रस्वरूप था। भूमिगोचरी और विद्याधररूपी सोको नष्ट करने के लिए गरुडस्वरूप था और जरासन्धके यशरूपी सागरको पीनेवाला था पर खेद है कि तु इस गोष्पदमें डूब गया ॥२७॥
हे नारायण ! देख, जो सूर्य तेरे समान अपने उग्र तेजसे शत्रुतुल्य रात्रिके अन्धकारको नष्ट कर संसारको सन्तप्त करता है वही अब अस्ताचलकी ओर जा रहा है ।।२८। इस सूर्यने तुझे दोघं निद्रामें निमग्न देखकर ही मानो अपने किरणरूपी हाथ अन्य स्थानोंसे संकोच कर अस्ताचलरूपी मस्तकपर रख छोड़े हैं और उनसे ऐसा जान पड़ता है मानो तेरे प्रति शोक ही कर रहा है। सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि तेरा यह सोना तीनों लोकोंमें किसके शोकके लिए नहीं है ? ।।२९।। जो वारुणी-पश्चिम दिशारूपी मदिराका अधिक सेवन कर लाल-लाल हो रहा है तथा आंसुओंसे युक्त चक्रवाक पक्षियोंका समूह जिसकी दशापर शोक प्रकट कर रहा है ऐसा यह सूर्य नीचे गिरा जा रहा है सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि वारुणी ( मदिरा ) का प्रेमी कौन व्यक्ति नीचे नहीं गिरता है ? ॥३०॥ अथवा यह सूर्य, इस समय शोकका भार दूर कर समुद्र में अवगाहन कर रहा है सो ऐसा जान पड़ता है मानो स्नान कर तुझे जलांजलि ही देना चाहता है। ठीक

You were like a thunderbolt to destroy the mountain of Kansa's anger and pride. You were like Garuda to destroy the demons and the Vidyaadharas. You were like a drinker of the ocean of Jarasandha's fame. But alas, you have drowned in this cow-dung. (27) See, O Narayana, the sun, like you, with its fierce brilliance, destroys the darkness of night, which is like an enemy, and burns the world. Now it is setting in the west. (28) Seeing you, both of you, immersed in sleep, the sun, as if in sorrow, has drawn back its rays, like hands, from other places and placed them on the head of the setting sun. And it seems as if it is mourning for you. Indeed, this sleep of yours, for whom is it not a cause for sorrow in the three worlds? (29) The sun, drunk with the wine of the west, is setting, and the group of swans, with tearful eyes, are lamenting its fate. It is right that it should fall, for who does not fall who is a lover of wine? (30) Or perhaps the sun, having cast off the burden of sorrow, is now immersing itself in the ocean. It seems as if it wants to give you a libation of water. Time, the knower of all, is doing what is right. (31)
