हरिवंशपुराणे कुदेवपाषाणमयातिवईरनाकुलो व्याकुलगोकुलाय । दधार गोवर्धनमूर्ध्वमुच्चैः स भूधरं भूधरणोरुदोर्ध्याम् ॥४८॥ भमानुषं कृष्णविचेष्टितं तस्सकर्णमाकर्ण्य बलेने वर्ण्यम् । कृतोपवासव्यपदेशतोऽगाद्मजं सवित्री सुतदर्शनाय ॥१९॥ सुकण्ठगोपालकैलोपगीतं सुतारघण्टाध्वनिगोधनाढ्यम् । महीध्रपादे वनरन्ध्रमोगात्पुरन्धिरध्यास्य' परां तिं सा ॥५०॥ क्वचिञ्चितं स्निग्धसुकृष्णवर्णैः क्वचिच्च सोद्यबलमद्रशुभैः। गवां गणैर्वीक्ष्य वनं जहर्ष भवत्यपत्यप्रतिमं हि हृष्टयै ॥५१॥ तृणाम्बुतृप्ता: स्तनलग्नवत्साः प्रदुह्यमानाश्च परा घटोनीः । ददर्श गा गोष्ठगतास्तदैषा प्रवृत्तरोमाञ्चसुखाभिरामा ॥५२॥ सवत्सधेनुध्वमयोऽतिधीरा रवाश्च गोपीदधिमन्थनोरथाः । मनोऽमिजह हरिमातुरुञ्चैर्गमीरनादा न हरन्ति किं वा ॥५३॥ ततोऽमिनन्दी हृदि नन्दगोपो यशोदयोपेत्य यशोविशुद्धाम् । स देवकी स्वामिनिका निकायैर्मनस्विनी भक्तियुतो ननाम ॥५४॥
दिन छठी देवी बैलका रूप बनाकर आयो । वह बैल बड़ा अहंकारी था, गोपालोंकी समस्त बस्तीमें जहाँ-तहां दिखाई देता था, जोरदार शब्द करता था और सबको डुबोते हुए महासागरके समान जान पड़ता था परन्तु सुन्दर कण्ठके धारक कृष्णने उसकी गरदन मोड़कर उसे नष्ट कर दिया
भगा दिया ॥४७॥ सातवीं देवीने पाषाणमयी तीन वर्षासे कृष्णको मारना चाहा परन्तु वे उस वर्षासे रंचमात्र भी व्याकुल नहीं हए प्रत्यत उन्होंने घबड़ाये हए गोकूलकी रक्षा करनेके लिए पृथिवीका भार धारण करनेसे विशाल अपनी दोनों भुजाओंसे गोवर्धन पर्वतको बहुत ऊँचा उठा लिया और उसके नीचे सबकी रक्षा की ॥४८॥
जब कृष्णकी इस लोकोत्तर चेष्टाका पता कानों-कान बलदेवको चला तब उन्होंने माता देवकीके सामने इसका वर्णन किया। उसे सुन वह किये हुए उपवासके बहाने पुत्रको देखनेके लिए व्रज-गोकुलकी ओर गयो॥४९॥ वहां पर्वतकी शाखापर स्थित, सुन्दर कण्ठके धारक गोपालकोंके मुख गोतसे झंकृत एवं घण्टाओंके जोरदार शब्दोंसे सहित गोधनसे युक्त वनखण्डमें बैठकर यह परम सन्तोषको प्राप्त हुई ॥५०॥ कहीं तो वह वन, कृष्णके रंगके समान स्निग्ध एवं उत्तम कृष्ण वर्णवालो गायोंके समहसे व्याप्त था और कहीं बलभद्रके समान सफेद वर्णवाली गायोंके समहसे युक्त था। उसे देख माता देवकी बहुत ही प्रसन्न हुई सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि पुत्रकी समानता प्राप्त करनेवाली वस्तु भी हर्षके लिए होती है ।।५१॥ जो घास और पानीसे सन्तुष्ट थीं, जिनके थनोंसे बछड़े लगे हुए थे, गोपाल लोग जिन्हें दुह रहे थे तथा घड़ोंके समान जिनके बड़े-बड़े स्तन थे ऐसी गोशालाओंमें खड़ी एक-से बढ़कर एक सुन्दर गायोंको देखकर माता देवकोके रोमांच निकल आये और वह सुखसे सुशोभित होने लगी ॥५२।। उस समय वहां बछड़ोंके साथ गायोंके रंभानेकी ध्वनि फैल रही थी तथा गोपियों द्वारा दही मथे जानेका जोरदार शब्द प्रसरित हो रहा था। उन सबसे देवकीका मन अत्यधिक हरा गया सो ठीक ही है क्योंकि गम्भीर शब्द क्या नहीं हरते हैं ? ॥५३॥ तदनन्तर जो मन ही मन अत्यधिक हर्षित हो रहा था, ऐसे नन्द गोपने यशोदाके साथ आकर, यशसे विशुद्ध, अनेक लोगोंके समूहसे सहित, गौरवशालिनी स्वामिनी देवकीको भक्ति

She saw the cows, content with grass and water, their calves suckling, being milked by the Gopalas, their udders large like pots. Seeing these beautiful cows in the cowshed, Devaki's hair stood on end, and she was filled with joy. ||52||

At that time, the sound of the cows mooing with their calves, and the sound of the Gopis churning butter, filled the air. Devaki's heart was filled with joy, for what cannot be overcome by a deep sound? ||53||

Then, Nanda, filled with joy, went to Devaki, along with Yashoda, and, with a group of people, bowed to the glorious Devaki with devotion. ||54||

The sixth day, the demon came in the form of a bull. He was arrogant, roaming everywhere in the Gokula, making a loud noise, and appearing like the ocean, drowning everything. But Krishna, the bearer of the beautiful throat, twisted his neck and destroyed him. ||47||

The seventh day, the demon tried to kill Krishna with a stone rain. But Krishna was not disturbed by it. Instead, he lifted the Govardhan mountain high above his head with his strong arms, protecting the Gokula from the rain. ||48||
