________________ (145) 447. (35az azhafa YAP ) 277: ( Hala) 1 The characteristics of the different) Prākrit dialects sometimes interchange. For example, as it is recorded that 'in Māgadhi faig changes to fas (acc. to sūtra fatfatet: 1 VIII-4 -298 ), so also (fato changes to f28) in Prākrit, Puiśācī and Sauraseni. E. g. farofa ? = 'farsfa' (= He stands'), (current primarily in Māgıdhī, but sometiines encountered also in general Prūkrit -- e. g. Mahārāștrī, Paiśācī and Saura senī. ( Similarly ) in Apabhramśa s as a second member of il compound consonant is elided alternatively, which (trait) aulso (sometimes) occurs in Māgadhi. Note, for example . TE - AIURT – HT – 17:35 377 - TE21 - EFT Fift'i (='ta – ARTT - FIA – CP: 157 - FEET – JETZT Áfaa: 1) ; (note retention of 7 in Tau <AE ; Vide sūtra VIII. 4. 398) and similar other illustrations. This interchange ( 44) is not just confined to phonetic characteristics (H19lmekunifa) (of the Prākrit dialects ); sometimes even the verbal terminations of tenses also interchange. For example, the terminations of the Present tense are often found used in the Past tense. e. g. 'अह पेच्छइ रहु - तणओ'। Here पेच्छइ (usually Present 3rd pers. sing.) is used for the Past tense : (= 377 fatale TEAT: 1). Similarly also, as in BTHIAS Tguftart' (='37THTU PAHAMT), the Present term. is used for the Past tense. Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
