(1) जिह्वेन्द्रियं नायकं वशीकुरुत, यस्य अधीनानि अन्यानि ।
मूले विनष्टे तुम्बिन्याः अवश्यं शुष्कानि भवन्ति पर्णानि ॥
(Try to) control the sense of taste, which is the leading one whom other senses follow; when the root of the gourd (creeper) is destroyed, (all) the leaves certainly dry up."
Here 3r illustrates the sūtra.
(Deriv. अवश्य > अवस्स > अवस + एं Instr. sing. term.). Metre is उल्लाल ( कपूर ) : 15 + 13 = 28 mātrās; yati after 15 mātrās.1 अवसु न सुअहिं सुहच्छिअहिं । (= अवश्यं न खपन्ति सुखासिकायाम् ।)
(Vide : sutra. 376-2) 428. 'एक्शः '-शब्दे डित्-इ (प्रत्ययः भवति) । - In Apabhramsa the word एक्शः takes a स्वार्थिक डित् इ affix. (1) एकशः शीलकलङ्कितानां दीयन्ते प्रायश्चित्तानि ।
यः पुनः खण्डयति अनुदिवसं तस्य प्रायश्चित्तेन किम् ॥ "For one who has broken his vows once expiation can be prescribed; but when one wrecks (one's character) day after day, what is the use of setting him expiatory actions ?"
Here gefa illustrates the sūtra. : 429. (नाम्नः परतः ) अ - (डित् ) अड - (डित् ) उल्ल - प्रत्ययाः स्वार्थे
( भवन्ति, तद्योगे.) खार्थिक – क( प्रत्ययस्य.) लुक (= लोपः)
च (भवति)। In Apabhramsa nouns take अ, (डित् ) अड, (डित् ) उल्ल, स्वार्थिक suffixes, and when they apply, the स्वार्थिक क term. is dropped. (1) विरहानलज्वालाकरालितकः पथिकः पथि यद् दृष्टकः (= दृष्टः) ।
