________________ 38 INTRODUCTION 4. Divākara was the first person who contemplated the translation of the Jaina scriptures from Prākṣta into Saṁskrta. The Sangha thereupon penalised him severely. 5. Divā kara was a very great scholar of Saṁskpta and composed many works in that language. 6. Divā kara fell a prey to the temptations of royal favours and swerved from the ascetic path. He was awakened to his sense of duty by his preceptor, 7. Divā kara died in the Deccan (c) A discussion of some important points. If we critically study all the above-mentioned five compositions we get a series of questions arising therefrom: 1. What was the origin of Vidyadhara Amnāya ? When did it start and where ? 2. (a) Can the names of Ācārya Skandila and Pādalipta be included in the Vidyadhara Amnaya ? What is the approximate time of these two Ācāryas ? What must be the distance of time between these two ? (6) Was Vrdd havādi a disciple of Skandila or of Suhasti ? (c) What is the approximate time of Vrudhavādi as well as Divā kara ? 3. In the Prabandhas, we find the mention of Diväkara's Gotra as Katyāyan as also the names of his parents. What is the original source of this information ? Was the sister of Divā kara a Jaina nun ? 4.
