INTRODUCTION
Siddhasena, while he wrote his Dwātrimsikäs but it is probable that these Vimsikā and Trimsikā of Vasu Bandhu influenced the Dwātrissikās of Siddhasena. Again, to devote a certain number of verses to a certain subject and to name the small work accordingly, is the method which is found first of all in the works of Vasu Bandhu. At any rate, this method can be clearly seen in his works, though there might be his predecessors who might have followed this method. That Siddhasena was a student of Vijñāna Vāda can easily be seen from his works. It is not too much to suppose that an eminent author like Siddhasena was conversant with the works of his eminent predecessors. Vasu Bandhu; and if our surmise is correct the very idea, of composing the Dwātrimģikās in a peculiar fashion incorporating one single doctrine in a single Dwātrimśikās probably has been taken by Siddha. sena from Vasa Bandhu.
(6) Aswa Ghoşa and Kalidūsa These two poets are very well-known in Samskrta literature, and almost all their works are very famous. Already we have mentioned above that Hemcandra has referred to Siddhasena as the greatest poet. But it cannot be definitely said that a particular epic or poems were undoubtedly composed by Siddhasena. Dwātrimśikās we have tried to prove, are very probably the works of Siddhasena; but a close comparative study of these Dwätrimśikās and the works of Kālidāsa and Aswa Ghosa will easily convince the readers that there is a close similarity in style, phraseology and some of the main ideas between
