destroying karmas. Besides, it describes the renunciation of acts involving defects as also the practice of acts free from defects.
Adhyayana XVIII declares that one who indulges in evil acts attains rebirths whereas one who does not indulge in evil acts attains liberation.
Adhyayana XIX prescribes the renunciation of anaryakarma and the practice of aryakarma.
Adhyayana XX deals with the five false doctrines. Moreover, it explains the doctrine that does not recognise soul, rebirth and the fruits of karmas. Then it refutes this doctrine.
Adhyayana XXI points out losses due to the lack of spiritual knowledge, benefits due to the attainment of spiritual knowledge, demerits of ignorance, and importance of knowledge.
Adhyayana XXII describes the nature of the enlightened one, and declares superiority and inferiority of men and women respectively in the field of spiritual discipline and religious practice. Moreover, it preaches spiritual philosophy and prescribes meditation.
Adhyayana XXIII enumerates two varieties of death and describes a good death.
Adhyayana XXIV exhorts one to renounce momentary pleasures and to attain permanent bliss, points out the importance of religion, describes indifference to mundane existence, explains the nature of karmas, mentions fruits of karmas and expounds the way to emancipation.
Adhyayana XXV states that indulgence in evil acts incurs demerit and renunciation of such acts incurs merit.
Adhyayana XXVI sets forth a noteworthy definition of the term 'brahmana' and describes spiritual cultivation (agriculture) and its fruit.
Adhyayana XXVII declares that renunciation of attachment practice of meditation and study of Scriptures—these three constitute the conduct of a good person. Moreover, it relates acts of an evil person. Besides it describes the practice of the one who wants to realise the Self.
Adhyayana XXVIII exhorts one to abandon desires for worldly pleasures as also to abandon actual enjoyment of worldly objects, and thereby to purify one's soul.
Adhyayana XXIX delineates the importance of the controlling of the sense-organs and sings the glory of a person who has conquered sense-organs.
Adhyayana XXX elucidates the fact that when good or bad karmas arise to give their fruits, if one experiences them with indifference, he will become free from karmas.
