INTRODUCTION
DESCRIPTION OF MANUSCRIPTS
DASAVAIKALIKASUTRA Late Agamaprabhākara Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji himself prepared the three copies of the three versions of the Daśavaikälikasūtra, yielded by three different traditions. These three versions are as follows: 1. One followed by Shri Agastyasiṁhagani in his Cūrni. 2. The other followed in the Vțddhavivarana. 3. The third followed by Ac. Haribhadra in his Vrtti: The version followed by Ac. Haribhadra is printed in the present volume. And the variants that were noted by Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji are given in foot-notes.
Munirāja Shri Punyavijayaji has utilized five palm-leaf mss. in preparing the critical edition of the text of the Daśavaikälikasūtra. These mss. contain the text of the Daśavaikälikasūtra alone. Over and above these mss., he utilized one printed edition of the text of the Daśavaikälikasūtra. And the sign To refers to this printed edition. Now let us describe these mss. and the printed edition one by one.
1- This is the palm-leaf ms. preserved in the Säntinātha Jaina Tādapatriya Jñāna-Bhandāra, Cambay. It is numbered 73 in the catalogue of this Bhandara, published by the Oriental Institute, Baroda. Folios 1-57 contain the Daśavaikälikasūtra, and the folios 58-82 contain the Päksikasūtra and the Kşamanakasūtra. At the end of the 82nd folio there occurs the first half of the first verse of the colophon containing the description of the person who got this ms copied. The concerned first half reads as follows: gujjaravansasamubbhavasobhanabhandariyassa dhūyae. The 83rd folio which must have contained the remaining part of the colophon is lost to us. So, we can say only this much that the ms. was got copied either by a daughter of Sobhana, a merchant who flourished in Gurjara lineage and had the surname 'bhadarī' or by her descendant. Its size is 35.5 cms. x 4 cms. Its condition is good.
-This is the palm-leaf ms. belonging to the same Bhandara. In the catalogue it is listed under No. 74. It contains 60 folios. Its size is 30.8 cms. x 4 cms. The script is excellent. The condition is good. The ms, is written in the second half of the 14th century of Vikrama Era.
3-This is a palm-leaf ms. It too belongs to the same Bhandara. In the catalogue it is listed under No. 75. It contains 53 folios. Its size is 35.5 cms. X 5.5 cms. The script is excellent. It is in good condition.
