The first adhyayana consists of four uddeśakas, the second three, the third four, and the fourth and the fifth two each. Thus these five adhyayanas have fifteen uddeśakas, and hence fifteen uddeśanakālas and fifteen samuddeśanakälas. The remaining twenty-two adhyayanas have no uddeśaka division, hence they have twenty-two uddeśanakālas and twenty-two samuddeśanakalas. So, the Sūtrakrtānga has in all thirty-seven uddeśanakālas and thirty-seven samuddeśanakālas.18
