________________ INTRODUCTION 29 to two folios, whereas two figures 189-190 are given to one and the same folio. Some fragments of the missing folios are preseryed along with the ms. This ms. is used only for clearly understanding the readings yielded by other mss. So, at all such places the readings of this ms. are not noted. The readings of the ms. occur on pp. 1184, 1185 and 1187 of the forthcoming third part of the Bhagavatīsūtra. The text of the Bhagavatisūtra contained in the second and the third part is compared syllable for syllable, with that contained in the yox ms. described in the Editor's Note (ET ) to the first part. Regarding this ms. it is to be noted that it is corrected throughout from the beginning to the end by some learned Jaina monk. In the Catalogue of the Cambay Bhandara, edited by Agamaprabhākara Muni Sri Punyavijayaji and published by the Oriental Institute, Baroda, the description of the ms. of the Bhagavati (No. 9, pp. 15-18) is given. Therein a noteworthy passage from the ms. of the Uddeśavidhi which occurs at the end of the Bhagavatīsūtra, is quoted. Only this passage is utilised here and one may refer to the pp. 1183-1187 of the forthcoming third part as also the foot-notes thereon. The other abbreviations occurring in the foot-notes of this second part and the subsequent third part should be understood according to the explanation of those abbreviations given in the first part. But those abbreviations which are not explained there in the first part are to be understood as follows: पा०=पाठान्तरम् टि० =टिप्पनकम् ला ४ सं० =ला ४ संज्ञकप्रतौ संशोधितः पाठः । Some Noteworthy Points Regarding this Publication : It will require much space and time to discuss clearly the readings accepted in this edition which are quite different from those accepted in other editions. We request the scholars to judge them and decide whether they are nearer the original text. But we could not resist the temptation of discussing some readings as it will prove important from the point of view of research. It will also bring out the necessity of examining the old mss. for critically editing the old texts and it will give the reader some idea of the version presented in the volume. 1. Sūtras 18 and 19 (pp. 582-583) of the fourth Uddeśa of the twelfth Sataka are available in the sto ms. only. We have not come across these sūtras in any of the mss. consulted by us. Nor does any printed edition countain them. Both these sutras are original and Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
